I love responding to my own posts!!!

    Anyway, an update.

P2CMS v1.1.9 has saved the day. After trying many different ways to achieve my netwok copy and running into Mac OS Permissions queerness at every turn, P2CMS cuts through the bulls**t!
Copies across the network to wherever I specify and then Verifies it. Good stuff.
It’s taking me approx 9 1/2 minutes to copy and verify a full 8Gb card ( about 7.2Gb actual data ) across a direct ethernet connection.

    OK, P2CMS:
For verification, you need to enable a checkbox under the Options menu

Is that Tool>Option>Others and then where it says Compare, you tick the box for Export and it will verify the copy when it copies from a P2 Card to the Destination you have set?

Aah, think I just answered my own question. When you hit File>Export, you get some options there including Do you want to verify the copy. This is also where you set the Destination to Copy ( Export ) to.

Such a kooky program!! I think I’m starting to get it…

I am the admin on my two laptops with the same Username and password and I’m having this same problem copying P2 across ethernet from the PCMCIA slot on my PowerBook G4 to an external eSATA array attached to my MacBook Pro.
After reading this thread I tried logging in on the PowerBook using my wifes account. Still can’t get it to work.
I can copy a P2 Card across to the Drop Box in the Public Folder of my account on the MacBook Pro but not to the external drive. ‘You do not have sufficient privileges…’
I’m getting very frustrated with that message!!
Any insights would be greatly appreciated.

Yeah that P2CMS User Manual is one funky piece of literature.
The translation team at Panasonic come out with some doozies!

I guess what I want is an array that can connect to the edit machine via FW800 or eSATA to avoid bottle necks on the network and to give us the best performance for editing but that can also support two machines writing rushes to it over Gigabit Ethernet.
Some like the LaCie Ethernet RAID have Gigabit Ethernet built in, not sure if that would give performance advantages or just save you having to buy a seperate hub.
Has anyone used one of these?

  • Thanks Steven.
I have a big job coming up with many P2 cards to be shot and logged in a short time and I really don’t want to have to manually name every clip in FCP’s Log and Transfer.
I wish it had the ability to batch rename clips like P2 Log or RayLight.
