OK, So if I convert the 444 file down to 422, are we still talking about the same file size issues and array needs or would an external esata drive suffice? This is just going to television.

Also, is uncompressed .mov the file type that I am wanting or would an avi be better for adobe?

    Tim,

I did mean to tell you something that did help. My friend suggested that I switch my preview scratch disks to a different hard drive than my captured scratch disks. This actually smoothed some things out.

    Just FYI

Once I did some install/uninstall stuff, it seems to be working a little more smoothly. The Cineform codec is something that I do expect some kinks with until they get it up with CS4 which I am being told will happen this month. The only real big issue that I have is that my playback monitor will not output through the AJA box. However, the preview monitor will. Although while the preview monitor is playing back, the video seems unable to keep up with the audio. One of the reasons why I was willing to pull the plug with Cineform was because I could use this codec on my Newtek VT5 system which will then allow me to be editing in HD on two different systems with 3 additional in SD.

When I went back to start listing out the problems I had had prior to the cineform, I just flat out got confused. I had digitized and re digitized so many different things and had so many different “test” projects that I could not remember which ones did what. In addition, I am still trying to work through knowing the difference between a problem that is caused by me or my lack of knowledge vs one caused by hardware.

First, let me say that I am sure Cineform is a great company. I have been irritated because it has not been an easy process to get information without a decent bit of homework. When I went to get information to figure out if their product was even what I needed, it was very hard. I searched around their website and could not find answers to my initial questions. I called numerous times and have since called a good handful of times and I don’t think I have ever actually spoken to a person. When I have a question or an issue, I don’t want to have to search through hundreds of forum posts each time – especially if I haven’t even purchased the product yet. I did get response through some emails. I guess it is just frustrating when you are already dealing with issues and have some sort of deadlines that you have to first search forums, then try email and wait for a response. Granted the response may be within a day but who wants to have to wait a day to have simple questions answered for problems fixed.

Second, Tim you have got to be one of the greatest guys out there. After our conversations and some troubleshooting I came to a few conclusions: Maybe my expectations were too high for my new system. If I am uneducated in this field, it really isn’t fair for me to expect you to educate me. I felt bad about taking your time to help me fix my problems. Cineform will work and my system will run easier with it. That being said, I don’t mind spending the money if it will help me.

I will work through it all and have gotten fairly far already as a result of your help. I certainly won’t be losing your contact info anytime soon.

Thanks for the attempt but I was able to finally figure out my problem. The software was apparently not liking the Wacom tablet that I have. I went through things one at a time AGAIN and finally figured this out.

All I can think was that the new Windows7/Vista driver was the problem. I went back to the one before which was just for XP/Vista 64 and it worked.

Thank you both for you input but you didn’t really compare the two. I am referring to the Xeon Quad Core that is out by Intel. When I was at NAB, Adobe was very heavily recommending the new Z800 computer line by HP as the best thing out there because of these processors and the ram possibilities. For the right $ amount, they have a dual quad core with hyperthreading available in the z800.

When talking to others like videoguys, they recommend the i7. When I spoke to them on the phone, they couldn’t really tell me the difference between the two processors. To me, it almost sounds like it is too new and people really don’t know about it leaving them to speak in general terms.

The debate I am having here at my office is about performance. One of the guys is saying go with the specs of this computer here: https://www.videoguys.com/Guide/E/Videoguys+DIY7+Intel+Core+i7+with+Vista+64/0xe07f65920351fbf3ed8f9892355dfda0.aspx
My argument was to go with this new HP Z800 series computer because all the talk at NAB. It is a good bit more expensive. I would like to know that the price difference is well worth the end product for me. If it is not, then I could buy 2 or 3 of the above link computers for the price of one super Z800.

    Hey there,

I thought I would jump in on this one. I have done a few production trips to Israel. I use the B-6. This works great for hiding. The other posters are correct though that wind is wind. I found that the place of preference for me was to place the mic right on the center of the button up shirt by the collar. I put it on the bottom part so the side of the shirt that ends up on top kinda blocks the wind.

My bigger issue has been the wireless frequencies. I had some less expensive Azden mic packs. I also have the Shure SLX systems. You can get an adapter cable for just about any system for the B6. The mic kept losing its connection no matter how many different frequencies I tried. It caused so many problems for my overall production.

On that note, if anyone knows a place to find vacant frequencies for Israel – it would really help!

  • I have tried all the available encodings with the exception of PAL.

  • RTV is the native file for Newtek VT4. However, it is very friendly to DV files and of course AVI’s. For some reason though, none of the AVI’s that I export from FCP actually work.
