Best way is to send an email to your regional support office. Depending on the email load it can be a few days for a response. So if you would prefer not to wait for a response, then I recommend you give us a call. The wait time is generally less than 5 minutes.

The problem you are describing is odd. The boards will play from either source or program window, it is dictated by which window was focused last. I’m sure you’ve checked that already. So i’d have to set up the test here in our lab.

To add onto this (just checked for confirmation). This situation was a good example of a developer that used our SDK to get more out of our hubs. They did this on their own with little help from us.

My understanding is that we are still planing to keep the system open so that other board manufacturers can hook into our software. Most likely we will do this by allowing vendors to download an SDK.

It would then be up to them to do the development to hook into the software, but as others have said, it’s going to a matter of convincing the manufacturers that there is a good thing to do or that there is new money in it for them.

Personally i’d love to see this. As many have said some of the smaller shops will probably want to use their existing hardware with this software and how cool would that be to simply have to add a GPU and install the software. For others they will build a dedicated system for it anyways and it won’t be as big of a deal. Bringing the tech to more people is the intention, so we want to make it as easy as possible.

I think I did some 24p. It obviously doesn’t support 60p 50p which would be a pretty common output (of say an XBOX360). I haven’t tried any 30/25p personally but they are supported.

Most important thing to watchout for with HDMI is the HDCP that is on most source devices. If all your devices are encrypted, no amount of sweet talking is gonna make them work.

  • Oh..it should be possible. There are cards that have hardware encoders on them that you could pass the signal off to in order to get a real time encode. But it should be possible for a beefy CPU and a proper application to get a capture of MPEG2 in real time via software (especially if you are going to SD, HD will be tougher).

Unfortunately I can’t recommend a specific software, but they are out there.

You will want to look for an MPEG2 encoding software that can utilize a directshow input from a capture board.

    Hi,

So what are you trying to capture to (codec wise) while using the DirectShow interface? Obviously Media Express is only going to support the formats that we control and know will capture properly in real time. But if you are using a different compression type the additional CPU overhead may be causing the capture to drift off.

Is it possible for you to capture with our codecs using these other utilities (they should be exposed) and let us know if those captures work fine or if they drift off too.

    Sincerely,

I think this is worth noting that it can be done if you write your own software, but as you can imagine that’s a bit of a commitment. From a support standpoint it is probably one of the top 5 requested features for our hub line. So obviously we’d like to see that included.

As to why it isn’t already included, it’s always a matter of features over time and which have a higher priority. It’s very hard to make a software that is everything to everyone (user level access and permissions is another great example), but that is one of the reasons we provide an SDK for that. But again…I think it’s something we’d really love to do, and as Hersh says, we just can’t give any timeframes.

    Hello,

It is quite possible that the direct show part of the drivers are not fully flushed out yet. But honestly I haven’t actually checked that yet. This would make sense given that it works in Media Express which doesn’t use DirectShow but rather our driver level SDK.

So I would recommend in this case that you shoot an email over to developer@blackmagic-design.com in order to ask.

Hrm…Interesting. I haven’t heard anything about it. Of course that’s not entirely odd either. So I guess it would have depended on how much interaction we had on this. The SDK is freely available so it is quite possible for someone to work on software for our devices without us ever knowing.

Of course…that said, it doesn’t mean we (as an entity) didn’t know. But rather, I personally did not. But it sounds cool though.

I would suspect the riser adapter would be a problem. Obviously you can try it, but I would recommend a motherboard that does not require you to use an adapter like that.
