Dont think there’s any filters. I would reccomend setting the shoot appropriately – 80’s videos, especially early 80’s videos, were unique because there was no formula for videos so the cinem-esque, narrative element didn’t exist yet. As a result there were high on imagery and melodrama, low on budget – fog machines, lasers, mirrors, etc.

Shoot in a large room – keep your light sources indirect and stay as basic as possible. Dont shoot on VHS – stay as high res as possible – but just remember the connection between lighting and drama.

    Good luck.

If you have Boris – try BCC Rays Textured – this will add kind of nice distorted “3rd Eye” look. Also try oversaturating the colors.

Not my style at all – but the client wants it.

Eliminated the 3-D roller effects created with Bezier Warp and took off Directional Blur. Will add the Directional Blur on final output via multi-machine render.

Thanks to all for their info. Really appreciated. CC rocks.

I’ll send a link later today for the approval copy just now completed.

I found a similar expression on Dan’s site – really sells the idea.

    Thanks again.

I ran some tests and realized Offset does not accept motion blur….????

Not sure if this is correct.

Hey Steve – I tried that but no luck. I just got the precomp stratgety to work – had to actually posistion the PSD file of the icons in a bizarre way but it works – I’m not complaining.

However – this has now presented a NEW challenge:

To sell the effect I need to Motion Blur the icons – as if they were spinning in a slot machine. Master MB is checked. Will outline the structure:

    Comp 1:
Right Roller Comp:(MASKED TO SHOW ICONS OVER ROLLER)
    – Right Roller Pre 1 (OFFSET, BCC BULGE)
    – Roller Icons PSD
Center Roller Comp:(MASKED TO SHOW ICONS OVER ROLLER)
    – Center Roller Pre 1 (OFFSET, BCC BULGE)
    – Roller Icons PSD
Left Roller Comp: (MASKED TO SHOW ICONS OVER ROLLER)
    – Left Roller Pre 1 (OFFSET, BCC BULGE)
    – Roller Icons PSD
    White Solid 1
    White Solid 2
    White Solid 3
    Slot Copy.PSD

    Not sure why this is…..

    Best,
