what are the specs for your computer?

I have had the jumping and correcting issue with a computer. But it was mostly because the computer was old.

Have you tried trashing your preferences?

Todd’s right. I started editing using a used MacBookPro and Final Cut Express. I don’t recommend express. And you will not be able to use Express for HD. I would say a MacbookPro should be as “low end” as you go if you want a machine that will handle HD footage well.

I like PluralEyes, but i’d say its their fault this time. Hope some one else can chime in with a bit more info. I’m curious too. I’m just beginning to use PluralEyes full time.

I don’t think I’m necessarily going to be much help, but just a thought.
When you trash the preferences for FCP you lose any and all “customization” or personalization to FCP. If there were any settings that you are used to using, or haven’t been changed on your computer in a while, (you may not have realized you were working with them), this could be the issue. I’ve trashed my preferences a couple of times and it has worked cleanly, but I had to reset any personalization or customization I had previously worked with.
Again, probably not much help, but maybe this could clue you in to something. Good Luck!

  • Did you remember to pop in the audio setting and set destinations for both? That could be one reason. Otherwise it’s just hiding from you.

Just a heads up. FCE leaves a lot to be desired. As long as you have a couple of computers using FCP, you should be fine. FCE doesn’t have much–extremely, and I mean extremely, basic. I have been using FCE @ home and FCP @ work for about 2 years now. I would prefer to do my personal projects at my office so that I could use Pro.
With the future of Video moving towards HD, you might be safer to buy all FCP. Students who can’t afford FCP @ home will definitely love being able to use it at school. Then you can recommend buying FCE for home. With an Education Discount, you are getting more than you are paying for when you purchase the FCP license.
Don’t buy something now, that will be outdated in a year and you’ll have to buy a new version.

    FCE is not upgradable.

I recently had to copy about 100 video clips for a History Course I’m creating for Online students. Just like you I used handbrake. As soon as handbrake was done with my clip, however I immediately open it with MPEG Streamclip, then click file–> convert to QuickTime.
It might take a bit of time to convert, but the resulting file is instantly transferable to FCP.

    Works well with Handbrake.

    Goodluck!
