This is what I’m referring to:

You can see where, to get a decent key, I had to bump up levels a good bit. I’ve got a garbage mask already (as you can tell), but I don’t know how I’d get around this without pulling shape data out of mocha to mask every green area.

Maybe I’m missing something obvious though…

Not possible. Shoot is tomorrow morning. Don’t have time to change all that.

I don’t see how I can get around NOT needing the shape data. Adjusting the key color will almost certainly affect the rest of the shot, so I’ll have to mask all non-chroma footage for each green screen layer so that it doesn’t screw up the color for everything.

The entire shot (over 3 minutes long) will make use of literally hundreds of photos. Some will be plain photographs, others in frames…all set down by various hands. It’s not possible to setup the entire shot in AE (or even a 3D program like Cinema 4D).

So, I definitely need to figure out how to properly track/mask/key this stuff.

Camera will be moving all over the place (up, down, left, right, tilt, pan, etc). It’ll be a huge scene with dozens of these little green cards I’ll need to track and key.

  • Thanks Ross.

Does Mocha do any of the resolution downsizing? Or are you just saying to do that in AE? (Wasn’t sure if that was functionality that Mocha might happen to have)

So is it okay to have both the source footage AND the disk cache on the same drive?

Roland, thanks for the response…but you lost me in that last paragraph. 🙂

Right now I’m only wondering about the Disk Cache when it comes to AE. I’ve got 2 drives that are available (each with hundreds of GB of available space). One is an external Firewire 800 drive and one is an internal SATA drive.

So I’m ultimately wondering which of those two should be used for the “Disk Cache” location in the AE Preferences.

Still feels like there’s got to be a better way. Trim Paths isn’t any less tedious on a complex/curvey path since you have to tweak start, end and offset so much to keep the angle correct.

If there’s no other option, then so be it, but I’m hoping someone else might have another idea.

But you’re staying I still have to manually mask that stuff. I’m asking how to basically do a stroke mask reveal with a hard edge, specifically because I need to automate this…not build every keyframe manually.
