  • Well Kathryn,

What are your settings in both the photoshopped titles (PNG, PSD, JPEG, TIFF, etc.) and in FCP sequence and edit settings? (Compression settings/frame rates/sizes etc.) Are you applying motion effects to the titles as well, or are they standard overlays?

    Andy,

try these two things: first, control+click on the still frame and select the “duration” option. That should let you type in the length you need; second, go to your user preference menu and set still frame duration to whatever you want it to be — default might be 10 sec.?

At least one of those options should work for you.

Weird — although the RT button is inactive on your sequence, you might still get to it in the “User Preferences” setting pane (under the render control tab). Well, glad it’s working anyhow!

Did you try creating a new project that matches your setting? If that gives you back your RT controls, you can try and nest your edited sequence into it and see if you can regain control of playback options.

You might also check your hard drive space. If it’s gotten to be pretty full, that could be causing some of the playback issues, or if you’ve got a bunch of other programs open at the same time. Might be eating up your processing speed. Auto-save projects default to — mac hard drive/users/YOUR ACCOUNT/documents/FCP documents/Autosave Vault

    Nayim,

how new is this project? Have you’ve been working on this edit for a while and suddenly the playback is bad? (–if so you might go to your user library and pick up an auto-save project.) Or is this a new project that you can start again? Just curious as to the creation date/to when the problem (accidental keystroke) happened. Also, what are your sequence settings/format? Is your media on the hard drive of your mac, or are you working off a san/drive? Might need a bit more information to try and pinpoint possible solutions.

    Thanks.

    Victor,

generally I give myself a bit more pre-roll than 5 1/2 seconds, but you can set your pre-roll needs in the “user preference” setting pane–editing tab. Maybe you’ve got your setting at 10 seconds or something. Switch it to 4 or 5 and see if the VTR will pickup the TC.

  • Ilyanne,

the randomness is sort of weird, but you might be seeing the problem because of a down converted capture. It’s possible that the communication between your camera and Final Cut is getting cut off between the captures you’ve selected in your batch. Have you tried setting up a few clips to capture at HDV without the down convert? It might be simpler to capture at full resolution HDV and then use compressor (or similar program) to do the down converting. At the very least, setting up your capture to match your footage will allow you to see if the down conversion communication is what is causing FCP to freeze up — which I imagine it is. I know that capturing HDV and then down converting will use up more space and cost a little bit of time, but it will probably smooth out the process and possibly give you a bit more control on your down converted output.

  • What camera and format? How are you connecting? Firewire?
