This is my first time editing a sequence to tape. FCP to DIGIBETA

    sequence: dv/dvcpro NTSC, 29.97, codec:dv/dvcpro ntsc
a/v settings blackmagic ntsc, decklink audio
I have followed all procedues , recorded a few minutes of blank and the rew the tape before Assembling it. I have encountered two issues.

    1) Initially the tape recorded the timecode but when i played it back there was no audio or video, although the tape ran for the duration of the in/ out points.

    2) After several attempts, now when i i try it, FCP gives me an error that “end of tape encountered” and the VTR will not even record. The fast forward button on the VTR switches on and off a few times and then I get this error.

    My point is….HELP :-

What timecode did you record to on the tape?
What timecode are you telling edit to tape to start at?
Does the timecode on the tape go past the number you set as your IN on the Edit To Tape window?

If the tape is FF and then you get the error can’t find TC on tape, FCP is not able to match the timecode IN to the timecode on your Digi Beta tape.

    hope that helps,

    Victor

    Victor,

generally I give myself a bit more pre-roll than 5 1/2 seconds, but you can set your pre-roll needs in the “user preference” setting pane–editing tab. Maybe you’ve got your setting at 10 seconds or something. Switch it to 4 or 5 and see if the VTR will pickup the TC.

Lots of potential issues here. Firstly you have a DV sequence and a Blackmagic card. I assume you have selected the correct Blackmagic DV Easy Setup which gives you an SDI output from the card into the digi beta and RS422 machine control.

If so, can you see your Final Cut output looping through the digi beta deck? If yes, then do you have common reference video going to both the digi beta and the Decklink card? Next,is the digi beta setup to reference the input signal or the reference signal?

Finally is the assemble editing picking up during the timecoded pre black section. Also the timecode needs to be setup correctly although it sounds like you have problems back in the SDI and reference area. Lets solve them first.
