This is a good point. General Error is just that a general error. However I can tell you what worked for me in my case. I pasted below my response from Creative Cow forum.

Now it looks like every clip is doing it. While I have one sequence of subclips rendered in the timeline, when I export it’s totally not correct.

It looks like each clip when exported is roughly 10-30 seconds than the actual in and out points I originally set on the time code.

However if I double click in the Browser they view normally in the Viewer. And if I simply hit play in the timeline, it plays normal. I’m baffled.

I tried basic stuff like trashing the preferences, rebooting the computer, copy and pasting to another sequence, etc… I even opened the project file on a different computer. Same problem (that one worries me).

Hi Tom. Thanks for responding, I appreciate it. First, that does work as a workaround. Which is awesome. That way I can at least cycle through clips and still make basic edits without looking at the wrong footage everytime I try to make an edit.

In the larger sense, I still have the problems in two other areas though. When I close final cut and open back up, 1 in every 5 times-ish one of the clips is the wrong clip in the timeline completely. In other words it shows up even when not using the tool, and if I render it renders the incorrect footage and not the correct footage.

So your first suggestion took care of half the problem (and I’m super grateful), in that I can continue to at least work on the project, however I’ll still scratching my head on what’s making the mistake. Don’t remember seeing it the last few years of editing, but then again, I almost never edit with DV-DVCPRO ntsc (I usually edit HDV).

Hi Steve. Workflow has worked before, in fact I just did the same thing for a different project last week, but I’d love to find out I’m doing something wrong so I can fix the prob and move on, ha ha.

Images are .jpg and I’m exporting using both non compressor options (Export as a Quicktime Movie, Using Quicktime Conversion). I’ve tried Photo JPEG, H.264, and AIC as my export codecs.

I generally export to my external drive, but tried exporting to my desktop as well.

Ghosting effect occurs when slideshow is part of whole movie, and when exported separately as well.

Any ideas?

What I’m using a workaround is to export uncompressed (as a Quicktime Movie) out of FCP, for one big uncompressed video. Then opening that video in Quicktime and recompressing. Essentially I’m doing the export option “using Quicktime Conversion” manually. That usually works.

By the way, the codec I’ using it PhotoJPEG.

Trashed preferences several times to see if it helped. Haven’t updated FCP in awhile (generally don’t like to do so in the middle of projects).
