I just started getting File I/O errors on my 320GB G-Raid when I goto render something and the drive is responding very slow.

I’ll get the spinning ball for about 2 min and then it will play the timeline.

I say it’s my G-raid, because when I play a project off of my 500GB Lacie everything seems fine.

Help. I have a deadline to finish tonight.

Did you ever figure out what to do? I’m having the same problem working off of a maxtor 750 gig and a maxtor 250 gig . . .

I hope this is not the case in your situation, but it turned out that my G-Raid was failing.
I actually lost the entire drive, but it was under warranty and G-Tech repaired it.

Didn’t help with the project though.

    Better luck to you.

    Thanks Steve –

So . . . it took a bit of playing around (albeit, mostly random) . . . but I think I’m back to being okay. After I repaired my disk persmissions, I restarted my computer a few times while playing around with using different firewire cords . . .

Not sure if it will happened again in the future . . . crossing my fingers.

Its a scary error, though . . . demons and evil.

Sorry about your project, that’s heart wrenching

I am having the same problem with a Western Digital 320 GB “My Book”. I’m not sure if it is the recent updates to Final Cut Studio 2 or my hard drive but I need any suggestions.

I’m having the exact same problems with my project. I was almost halfway done editing my project without any problems and then all of a sudden whenever I click on or try to play my timeline it will play for a few seconds and then freeze and then the spinning ball will appear and I will be forced to Force Quit. I do not want to just abandon this project, and this is a brand new hardrive with only this project on it. The Western Digital 320 GB “My Book”. Can anyone offer any help?

I’m sure there’s different reasons for some people, but I figured out what was causing it on my end. The common factor most of us have is that these are new drives. And with new drives comes a bunch of new cables. I pulled the new firewire cable I was using (that had just come with my drive) and switched it with a firewire 800 cable I know worked, and wholla. Problem instantly solved!

Why does is always have to happen on a deadline?

My problem was that I was using an WAV non compress file. After I change to mp3 audio file did not work. So i converted to AIFF and work fine! Hope it works for you too!
