It sounds as if you’re moving the comp that the flare is on, and not the center point of the flare. You need to spend more time going through the Optical Flare tutorials on the VideoCopilot website, and reading the help files. As far as making the flare look real, I always put my flare on a black solid, and then put that solid into Add or Additive mode. This adds the brighter values of the flare to the comps beneath it, and makes it look more realistic.

It just seems to work on mine. My guess would be that the CL seller broke the input jack somehow (these little 3.5mm jacks are the weak point in small audio devices), and stuck you with it. I’d get back in touch with him if you can, and ask him straight out. It would probably cost more to repair it than it cost you to buy it. There’s also the possibility that he connected the line in while phantom power was turned on, and fried some of the circuitry. This possibility is clearly stated in the manual, but some people just love to start using sophisticated equipment without reading the directions first. Good luck.

One other thing, Ian – upon looking at the Realtek onboard chipset by doing a Google search “Realtek latency problems”, I found tons of people having the same problems. That said, my HP Z800 workstation has a Realtek onboard chipset has no problems with latency in either Audition CS6, or Sony ACID Studio. Of course, it’s got dual quad core Xeon processors and 48GB of RAM, so that may have something to do with it.

You don’t say much at all about your system audio card, so I assume that it’s an on board card. That said, you should be able to work with little or no latency problems:

You called your software “Audio 3”. Can I assume you mean Audition 3? You also don’t say which version (dot version) you have installed. There’s a patch 3.0.1 available which solves a number of problems:

I noticed a couple of places mentioning that WLAN caused latency problems, and if you deactivated it, they went away. Worth a try.

I’m not by any stretch of the imagination an expressions expert, but I think that Adobe created the Pick Whip aspect of Expressions just for the purpose of making life easy on those who don’t want to “learn the language”. How much easier can it get than dragging and linking parameters to get very powerful results?
