The consumer monitor may not be capable of reproducing the lower gray scale values that a grade monitor is expected to — very unlikely to be able to support 10-bit, but almost certainly fudging the contrast ratio.

Within an intelligent decoder like the Media Composer application, the simple answer is no.
If you attempt to play back 601 within a 709 environment that assumes all input will be 709, then, yes it would be a problem, mostly because the RGB –>Y’ matrix coefficients are different. But Media Composer, knowing you are operating in 709, will (or should) flag the 601 media as requiring a different matrix extraction, and unify the media, exactly as if you were bringing legacy footage into a fresh edit timeline.
Why your Alexa footage somehow got flagged as 601 is the bigger mystery.

Not sure I understand the question. One of the strengths of the Resolve grading solution is that each edited timeline is actually a version of the Master Timeline, and it gives rise to the mysterious reference “Copy Remote Grades”… because your edited timeline is a “remote” version of the Master Timeline. If you want to break the tie-in between one of the daughter sequences (the Master being the parent, although that does not translate in human terms) then you invoke the famous right-click instruction to change that relationship, or, on an individual clip basis, “create local”.

You can try to force-link it, but also make sure that it is “legal” as a supported media type, etc.

You might want to try re-burning the Data DVD using a utility like Toast that has options for making the files Mac and Windows compatible. You shouldn’t have to recompress the original…

No, the way dynamics work in Resolve is the start point should be a diamond and the end point is the square. Even in the days of Dynatech daVinci, “keyframes” start with the dissolve and progress to the static endpoint.jPo

If you follow this YouTube link about the SNARK, also have a look at the USAF training film entitled “Ejection Decision”. It provides some very entertaining advice about when to bail. That is…. early.
I also don’t understand the enthusiasm for Speedgrade. Seems kind of dead in the water. I even went back over to some of the booths that were still running Resolve 9 and amazingly, even it felt a little bit clunky compared to the 10 release… so I will be bailing on 9, the second 10 is released.
And although I own Creative Suite, its very unlikely that Speedgrade will ever even be booted on my system. One issue is the Blackmagic non-support for Video I/O, but really, even the somewhat enthusiastic show floor demo was ??????? uh…. that’s it?????? Not even “meh”…. it can aspire to “meh.”

This will become a more direct ability in version ten, but until that is released, methods for applying stabilizing or tracking data between clips have been discussed a couple of times, and I believe Dan Moran has a mini tutorial that should be searchable.
