    If it is previewing successfully, hard to say what would cause it to export incorrectly especially in clip mode as opposed to single file mode. You are using the internal Resolve stabilizer and not a plugin filter?

    The only other slight possibility that comes to mind is perhaps a difference in the source media being in conflict with the sequence resolution….

    I will plus-one this observation. Although some users will start feeling a pinch with storage and file-transfer rates, intra-based codecs, as opposed to Long-GOP are a lighter load in terms of CPU processing. Further, internal computational accuracy as far as frame location is concerned is not as dependent on how the predictive and bidirectional frames are interpreted. Most grade software has evolved from kernel applications that were designed to process sequential files (dpx, cin, tga, and so on) and its somewhat remarkable that mov wrappers work as well as they do. Although the prevailing attitude today is that anything and everything should work the same, every time and all the time.

    To learn the software, it is not terribly important to have a display card — if you wish to grade seriously with confidence, you will be compelled to characterize and calibrate whatever display you do wish to make valid judgements.

    Consult with the Configuration Guide published by Black Magic Design on their Resolve support page. There really are too many details that depend on your specific platform to make a blanket recommendation.

    There are several options for Video I/O, not restricted to PCIe internal devices.

    Once again, people are confusing the software-based version of DaVinci color correction with every other piece of player-based NLE out there. Resolve is also hardware-dependent, much less than Renaissance, 8:8:8 or 2K, but there is still that processing requirement. Resolve re-defines the source media and the benefit premise is that it does it in real time — something that almost none of the NLEs can accomplish without the support of a render-cache.

    As for color-consistent, calibrated display… seems like the hardest concept for the world to wrap its head around. Graphics displays just aren’t equipped to do it. Searching for a colorful metaphor…. its not just an elitist conceit that Boston Baked Beans are not Cassoulet — its not even the right kind of bean.

    Mostly macroblocking and 8-bit banding as far as I can tell, which is sort of normal-ish if the bitrate and sample-depth is not controlled very deliberately. Probably worse with ProRes, since both services will really hammer the file down to make it compatible with a bitrate the internet can handle.

    Are you using a compression application like Apple Compressor or Adobe Media Encoder? They do come with some presets for net distribution that should help.

    Its mostly organizational, since it is true that you could stack up an entire grade in one node, other than any parallel processes that might be part of the process. Experience shows that sometimes positioning a value within a concatenation will help with controlling it with a downstream process (Secondary corrections seem to work better, for example). But if you want to discipline your approach so that some processes can be shared with other grades, such as adding an overall wash to a clip that has an otherwise unique grey-scale correction, then copying that wash to other clips with their own original values is easier. When working in an interactive session, segregating or isolating corrections within a grade makes it convenient to click it in and out to show what effect is it having. Others specifically design a tree so that it is processed in a pre-defined way… Node #1 does a grey-scale adjustment or other media-specific transform (log conversion, maybe), Node #2 might add some kind of secondary separation or hue adjustment, Nodes #3/4 might be an inside-outside Power Window, Node#5 might be a Noise Reducer or VFX plugin… there might be another node that generates an alpha channel to feed to a transparency separation… split out nodes to process individual channels in RGB or Y’CbCr… it goes on.

    Its about flexibility in the end.

    Dual Screen, although a desirable working environment does still suffer from all the GUI-related Operating System caveats in that it is not color-managed in the same way as a Video I/O card is. That is, the video card ignores all the display profile stuff that GPUs are saddled with, to contend with graphic profiles.

    That said, review the Manual entry for Dual-Monitor operation and what you can do to set up your operating environment, which does not allow for a lot of customization. It is almost deliberately set up so that you cannot see the color-wheel controls at the same time as a full-screen display of the active GUI reference image. The best you might be able to do is Option-F.

    The feature as demonstrated is deeper than that, and will allow a user to imbed a complex node arrangement into a “nested” node which will appear as a single entity — which you can still re-open to modify. Combining-nodes (serial/parallel) will also have a different shape.

    Are they “flashed” Mac-compatible or Apple-approved versions? Maybe that is the difference. Most users don’t want to go through the process when the non-Apples can be added directly under later OS versions — albeit with the total number being limited.
