  • I do a lot of iPhone 3D model work and instead of replacing the screen in AE I do it in C4D. Save out the screencaptures as a video in the correct aspect ratio of the screen and load it into the color channel of the screen material. Click the preview of the video in the material editor and go to its animation tab and press calculate. Then go to the Editor tab of the material and check the Animate Preview box.

This adds to the realism, especially if your iPhone model has a glass screen with reflections and refraction.

    Hi!

Just a few suggestions, as my company creates a lot of videos in this style:

    • Try to fly some of your animations over to After Effects (select and choose Create AE Composition). It will open them in AE. You can check your motion interpolation there. You can also add motion blur, which will add some realism and more smoothness to the animations. Go back to PP and render them right on your timeline. In general, you’ll get more pleasing animations in AE anyhow, even if you start them in PP.

    • No need for 1080i and adding interlacing to screen capture content, can you choose a 1080P setting?

    • On your export, using H.264, set your bitrate to variable with 7000-10000 kbps and see if that helps

Shane’s right- interviews were conducted long before FCPX release. FCPX was new when we cut those promos.

Will try the project file route and post my findings here.

Thanks for confirming my hunch about the size; on XML output, FCPX wrote all the linked files as 1280×720, regardless of their size, including high-res still images. Some fiddling with relinking the files a few times sort of forced things to work, but not in a way I’d consider project-ready on something critical.

Problem fixed while on phone with Apple tech support — it seems it was a strange anomaly (their words exactly) in which a project “updated” to FCP 6 exhibits this behavior– upon dragging an “updated” FCP5 sequence into a new, fresh FCP6 project, problem solved.

And, oddly, that act fixed whatever was broken in the original “broken” project.

I’ve learned to not ask too many questions in these sorts of situations and just accept it — my zen approach to Apple. 🙂

No speed changes / effects at all on the timeline.

I should add it also is affecting all projects, regardless of format (I have DV, HDV, and DVCPRO HD timelines all doing the same thing)
