    Jon,

It does help, as I’ve never thought of numbering a grid. You are correct that it is an edge. Look here:

    https://71.15.100.36/temp/

There are 3 files there. “MicProject.jpg” is a frame of the mic as I have it now. “Top Half Mic.ai” is the edge profile for, well, just that. “Transparency Map.jpg” is an export of the map as a jpg. I have it exported as a Targa file and using it as a Layer Map, offset a little to move the edges to the back. I will eventually do a camera fly by, but for now, I’m getting along with that.

As you can see, however, the holes are stretched towards the top. The only theory I have is that the map isn’t “tall” enough, and is therefore stretched vertically.

  • Reloaded….

Thanks for this tip… I was able to use it as a layer map in ZAX, and it worked perfectly.

I am wondering, though… this looks like it had to be made with software. Where is the best place to find such things?

  • This is very nice! Thanks.

One question about keeping the reflection sets synchronized to the main sets. I would think ( Dan?? ) that you can simply use an expression in the reflection sets to make their position the negative (when appropriate) to those in the main set. Wouldn’t that make it much easier to ensure proper movement of the main and reflection sets?

  • Well, keep in mind I’m just beginning to learn, and this is just the Soccer Ball, but here it is:

  • I got it. Thanks for all your quick help. Now to figure out the camera… but I can handle that.

  • OK… This is where I am (still playing with ideas). I created a 3D primitive sphere in Zax. I downloaded the soccer ball texture for the suggestion in CC Sphere, and applied that as a transparency map. That creates the breaks in the polygons just fine, but it also hollows out the pentagons of the ball. So, I suspect I’ll just change the texture for the transparency to turn the black spots white, leaving just the seams black. The should work just fine.

How to I put on a texture map? I don’t see that option? I think that is my answer, because the ball looks fine with the transparency map, but, of course, I don’t have white/black areas from the inside.

I can make a nice bump map to make the ball look more natural, and I’ll tweak it from there.

  • The texture with CC-Sphere looks OK, but, I don’t see how to get inside of the ball. Even redering just the inside still makes it appear as if I’m standing outside the ball. I increased the radius, but still no luck.
    What am I missing?

  • Serge, thanks for the reply. I have Zax 4 Pro. I don’t have Lux yet, but will have to get it for this project to create the volumetric lighting coming from “outside” the ball. (Read that to mean this gives me a good excuse to get Lux :-))

The “sunlight” that is seeping in through the seams of the ball will actually be illuminating objects within the ball.

Then the camera moves out through the skin of the ball… at this point, the camera will blur it where I can replace with an actual ball I’ll have on film.

The transparency map, I would think, would need to be the polygons of a soccer ball. I think I have the idea there, so that I will try.

    The stitching has me stumped.

  • Yes, I have Zax 4 Pro.

I think my newbie ness will show now…Are those soccer balls zax balls in aep files? If not, how do I use them?
