    Adam,

Though I got the wireframe I wanted, I now want to try it your way… using your #2 suggestion. You say to “Melt” the edges. I don’t get it. Are you talking about the “Melt” deformer, cuz… if you are, I certainly don’t have a clue what I’m doing here.

Hey… I’m interested in knowing if you were able to pull this off?

I have tried… not as well, but I did get a pretty nice result.

I found using a white paper texture with slight bump, and about 4 lights with careful shadow mapping to work well.

I also added a slight glow to it, which seemed to make the difference… as I noticed a bit of glow in the sample you posted.

    Now… why didn’t I see that? Easy enough….

    Thanks

Hmmm.. going to have to try that…. in the meantime…

This is what I have now…

and I was thinking I could use the Spherify deformer, but I don’t think it was meant for a flat object like this.

How can I wrap the object around a sphere?

Have you taken a look at textures at the Stock Exchange?

    Maybe you’ll find something there.

    Before with a texture map:

And here it is with grass ( 10 minute render for a single frame )…

I had already taken a guess and put the alpha on the density channel and it worked as I expected. That is, grass where white is, no grass where black is.

I’ve managed to increase my render time exponentially… definitely must look into building a new machine for this 🙂

What would be the difference if I put the alpha map on length?

And… it is working really well… I’ll post a pic later, but any ideas on making weeds?

It’s a rocky surface with grass mixed in… I clearly need to learn how to make grass with the fur module. But here’s what I have…

The stone and grass are both from a photo. UVW mapping tiled 20 and 15 times respectively.

The grass uses an alpha map.

Any siggestions are welcome… meanwhile, I’m in search of a “fur” tutorial … hopefully how to make grass. The main question then will be… can I make grass with the alpha so I have areas of grass, rather than a fuzzy surface.

Never mind… I figured it out… I’m trying way too hard to make it hard…

I just needed a 2nd texture, no mixing, and an alpha…

    Sorry to bother you.

So here’s the thing… to simpify… what if I want a vase with a painted center. I’ve got materal 1, the green marblish finish. The 2nd materia is the band of paint. Here’s what I’ve done:

How do I get the band to not be partially transparent? I’ve tried several mix modes… nothing seems to work to make the band solid.
