Hi Lee,
You were very right: I just had to turn open the log an capture window of the AJA, to be able to see what’s on the prof, monitor.
One thing I don’t recomend is to used regular tv set for monitor, neither in post produccion or in field recording. Tha’s why I allways liked to have a look at both. I don’t know if it’s the -unexplicable- IRE 7%, but regular sets always look brither and more contrasting than what you have on tape and can be very misleading. I know that’s what people is going to at home, not on film, so is always good to have one at hand. But be VERY concnscious ot it.
I always have admire how you estadounidenses are so willing to help other people. In some other places, enven in Europe, people are VERY jelous.
The other thing you explained me about capturaring in DVCpro, I don’t understand. And now that everything is back to normal, I are no willing to change.
All the very best and have a very good they. You deserve it.

Many thanks Gary,
It was a much more simple thing, that Lee explained to me. Tha aja has to be loaded with FCP, in the log and capture window, to be able to see what’s on the monitor.
It’s strange but my AJA io does have SDI connectors but maybe no for output. But I’m no going to worry more about it. Now that everything is back into other.
Something I admire a lot of you estadounidenses is how you help other people. In other places, people is VERY jelous. Even in Europe.
All the best, and have a great day.

Hi Lee,
I think the first solution was what I used, via the log and capture window on FCP. The second solution sounds interesting, but I´m a bit afraid of trying.
I never used another cable, but the monitor does have component inputs. I´ll have to use the ones that come out of the VTR, but is the best idea. I hope nothing goes wrong.
I tried to open the link you sent me about capturing directly to ProRes 422 via FireWire. But it didn´t open. I´ll try later.
I´m not at my office now. I´ll tell you later. Have a good weekend.
Many thanks again,

Hi Lee,
It’s only when I’m checking what I’ve printed onto tape that there is no image on the monitor. While capturing and editing it works fine. I’ve tried several playback setups, to no avail. But I know it used to work. I bet you is something simple.
The monitor is a SONY 21″, connected to the AJA via s-video. And that’s when everything began. Because I tried to connect it via component to improve de image and unplugged the BNCs from de VTR …and then the mess started.
I know I tried some ref sync from de DSR45 to the AJA and inclusive tried sone SDI. I’ve allways wondered whether is bettter than component.
There is picture on the small screen of the DSR45 and in a regular tv set pluged to it via composite.
Many thanks, Lee.
Sincerely,

Many thanks Lee,
For your pront reply. It was a great help. As I told you because I have all my componet connectors busy to and from my VTR, I monitor through the s-video connector from the AJA. Everything works well for capturing an printing to video. But when I’m going to monitor what I printed to video It doesn’t show on the monitor connected to de AJA via S-video, it does show on a normal TV set that is connected to the VTR via composite.
I have some time without using my system but I think it used to show on both. If you remember, I tried to change the componet cables to be able to see better on the pro monitor and I changed back to the original set up because that cause me lots of trouble.
The out light on the AJA is on but I can’t see nothing on the pro monitor and s-cable is ok because it work while editing.
I hope you can help me.
All the best,
Jose

Hi there,
Sorry for been so outdated, I’m been using a AJA IO SD for some years. But because I’m not too satisfacied with the quality I get in the monitor via s-video (because I have the componet connectors bussy for the DSR 45) I tried to use the out componet connector to the monitor and I made a mess. I’m confused with the terms Sony and by AJA use to define the connector(Y, RY, BY by Sony) and YPbPr by AJA. I actually forgot who I did the first time and my equipment is in a small room. Which cable should I use for which connector, or what connector should get plug to each other? Is you are so kind? I don’t have a black burst. It’s worth to connect the VTR to the REf on the AJA?
Many thanks for you time. I’m more a DP than a editor (two world apart!). If I can be of any help, I’ll be mor than glad to do so.

I adjusted the Flange Focal Length with a chart at 10 feet just like the user manual says but I still have trouble with far away subjects wide open and in full tele!

Usually, what happens is that you get focus in infinity before the lens mark. But, this is new to me.
Many thanks.

Hi Sacha,
Is it the same for SD io?
Thanks,

Thanks Jeremy,
If you try to understand everything in this business, you might end up not doing what you got into it for in the first place. So the best solution is the first one… 🙂
In capturing there seems to be no problem, as I wrote to Ken up above, it’s in printing to video.
All the best,
