I cannot understand why SCS Support told you to do so, as it will be recompressed as mpeg-2 video format for the DVD. But if you say so…

Anyway, my tests with several versions of Movie Studio Platinum show consistently similar results to what GB is mentioning in his screenshot post. As said, more info with MediaInfo (tree/text view) on the files you are working with and about your settings might help. And which version and build of Movie Studio (Platinum?) are you using?

[Joel Miller] “I was told by Sony Customer Support to — use the AVCHD 1920X1080-60i if I wanted to burn it to a DVD”

    Really? To a DVD?

Which video format should I render as

If and when what JR suggests works, you could save settings to video profiles for future auto-detection (Properties > Media, Stream, Diskette Icon).

  • If other methods fail, try resetting back to factory defaults (including all preferences you have changed).

Close the program. Now press CTRL+SHIFT while double-clicking on the program’s icon to launch it. Continue to hold the CTRL & SHIFT keys until the program is fully up and loaded.
In newer programs, you will see a window that asks “Do you want to reset all preferences to default values?” Place a checkmark next to “Delete all cached application data” and then click Yes.

  • There are several methods available for adding effects to video.
You can e.g. drag a preset thumbnail to a track, event, or to the Video Preview window to apply the effect.

Drag the thumbnail to an event on the timeline to see the Video Event FX window.

Or click the Event FX button on a timeline event to add effects to the event or edit event effects.

Double-click the title bar of the Video FX window to resize it for the current plug-in.

    From the SCS site:
You must provide registration information to Sony Creative Software Inc., a US company, in order to activate the software. Product requires online registration.

    How to register your software

Try toggling the “Use legacy disc drivers” option in Options > Preferences > Burning. This option is in the later builds of DVD A Studio 5.

Remember of course that the ISO Image Writer is a software “device” that you “burn” to like you would for a hardware device. No physical disc is burnt, only an ISO file is created.

  • What makes you think you cannot have more than 2 minutes?
    The default layout?
Have you actually tried adding more than 2 minutes?

And you may have rendered “Loop region only”. See under Render Options in the Render As window.

  • Nice to read that at least that worked.
    From online Help:
The track list, timeline, and window docking area sections can be sized to your preferences by dragging the dividers between them or by using F11:
F11 minimizes and restores the window docking area.
Shift+F11 minimizes and restores the track list.
Ctrl+F11 maximizes and restores the timeline vertically and horizontally (window docking area and track list will be hidden).

  • Try resetting.

(You could also try double-clicking where you see the “sign” instead of holding down the left mouse button and dragging. OR Shift+F11)
