What resolution are you at? What’s the quality set to in your timeline? (it should be a little green button, bottom left corner – if it’s yellow or half green / yellow, click on it until it changes to green)…

I’m bringing my daughter our to USF in August – I’ll consult for a case of local brew and a pointer to some decent mountain bike trails!
Have you looked at some of the online training at the Avid site? It’s called ALEX (some marketing genius came up with the acronym, but I don’t remember what it stands for…). There’s also some very good training DVD’s at the Avid store.

It does seem the TC goes to hours:minutes when playing. I guess I never noticed – when I need TC, I stop the timeline and look at it….

My geuss is you can’t use any of the I/O boards. There’s a reason why the last MC Meridian software version topped out at 12.01, and the software version started with 1.0.
If you are looking to buy a Meridian system, you need to consider (I upgraded my Meridian system with MC/SDI Mojo this month) the boards. Previous posters are correct – MC Meridian was an absolutely rock solid system. I’ve had a Meridian since they came out in 2000 or 01. But as my system aged, I had more problems integrating it into a workflow that has become essentially tapeless once the footage is ingested. Exporting quicktime was a nightmare. Stability became a major issue – it would crash just because you looked at it wrong. And forget about upgrading. You need a very specialized CPU, and if it’s mac, they are very difficult to obtain. Bottom line is I’m estatic with MC/SDI Mojo combo.

I’m not sure I’ve heard of a .wmp – this this a new format? I’m not sure you can import any type of .wmv, but a .wmp is new to me. Have you tried converting it with something like Sorenson or Stream Clip?

Are you in an MXF project? When you say ‘write out’, do you mean to tape, or some type of file format? Where are you trying to get to?

You can also save your settings to site settings. MC and XPress are different. Assuming you are on a PC, in MC activate your main project bin. Go to file>open site settings. In XPress, activate your main project bin, go to file>open settings file, and navigate to your settings file (typically c:>program files>Avid>Avid Xpress>settings.
Just make sure to have the project window active before you try any of this. Once the settings window is open, you should be able to drag most settings into the site settings bin.I’m doing the paths by memory, so they may or may not be exact.
