Importing P2 Footage at an “m” resolution

Ok, so that worked fine, but now I’m having trouble bringing up the media on others systems. I imported and transcoded on the software only version of Avid, but need to edit with it on Media Composers with bobs.

I consolidated the transcoded 4:1m media to our unity drives, but the bin containing the transcoded media will not open on the system we we want to use.

Any advice?

Are you trying to go to a meridian system? If you are, it won’t work. Media is forward compatible, but not backwards, as I understand it. My geuss is you’ll have to export as QT and import into the meridian system.

Actually, media is backwards compatible if it fulfills certain requirements.

1) If you’re going to a Meridien system, OMF media only. MXF didn’t exist in the meridien days and it won’t work. If you have P2 footage, you have MXF footage and your Meridien won’t read it.

2) The resolution has to be an available resolution on the meridien system. Just like you can’t take 2:1 footage from a Media Composer to an Xpress Pro system, you can’t take a resolution that isn’t available on the Meridien and expect it to play. I have no idea if Meridien systems had “m” resolution, but if they don’t you’ll need to transcode to something else. If if your “m” resolution media is MXF, you need to figure out how to get it to OMF (if it possible to transcode from MXF to OMF? I honestly don’t know).

3) The capture codec has to be available on the Meridien system. For example, if you don’t have the DV option and you have DV footage, you can’t transfer the footage without transcoding to something else.

Otherwise, you can take OMF footage from Symphony and roll it back to an ancient Meridien if the resolutions and codecs are available on it.
