October 16, 2012 at 4:59 pm in reply to: Using a GTX 570 For Both GUI and GPU?

    Hi there,

I run my mac pro on a solo GTX570 2.5gb. Works great for SD+HD grading in real time, gets a bit bogged down once you start adding a lot of HSL qualifier nodes on the same shot at full HD but in general I would recommend it as either a stop gap between getting a dedicated GUI card- or in my case as the only card as my pci slots are full of other cards as it’s a multi use machine.

    Thanks,

    Jon

Operating system is definitely booting into 64bit mode, marked as ‘yes’ under system profiler.

Edit: Also resolve 9 wouldn’t open unless the operating system was 64 bit.

    Hi there,

I’ve just had this problem with Resolve 9, as far as I know its because it’s a 64 bit application and your graphics cards may be stopping your mac from booting automatically into 64 bit mode. This would never have bothered you in R8 as that was 32 bit anyway. You can check whether you’re in 64 or 32 by using system profiler and selecting the ‘software’ subheading. Check under 64-but Kernel and Extensions for either a Yes or a No.

If it’s a no then try rebooting and holding down 6 and 4 before the bong when you start up. Then check system profiler again and if it says ‘Yes’ then try resolve again.

    Hope this helps,

    Jon

    Hi there,

Just wondering if you’d had any interest in this yet? I’m a Resolve Colourist up in Manchester but not adverse to a bit of train travel!

Hadn’t initially replied as I thought you’d be snowed under in London applicants, but feel free to give me a shout back if you’re still looking.

Could roll back to V8 however its not quite annoying enough to be bothered! I like the new interface, and R9 makes my life easier in other ways (AAF generation for instance) so I’m gonna stick for the time being and see what they come up with.

September 11, 2012 at 2:17 pm in reply to: 16:9 Output Scaling Issues

    Hi there Pepijn,

Thanks for your reply, it seems the only way I can get it to work is randomly switching between settings for a while and then for some reason it seems to click into the correct res. Tried all combinations of settings including playing with the clip settings individually. Annoyingly I’ve had it working on certain settings, written them all down and saved a preset, and then returned to them the next day and they don’t work!

I’d love to be able to leave everything at HD apart from the output settings, however I can’t seem to find a setting that will allow me to do that. Any combination of output scaling options just gives me a cropped HD image on my SD monitor (perhaps a product of having a lesser decklink card?). If you have it working another way I’d be glad to hear how.

Obviously I can’t grumble too much, as this new build of software seems to be great! I think it’s more a me-not-having-a-HD-grading-monitor problem, it’s just annoying as I had it working perfectly before.

  • I’ve been having a really similar issue with Power Windows not aligning with the correction. (confirmed by entering highlight mode and the highlight not aligning with the window).

Here’s a link to the exact issue I am having, https://forums.creativecow.net/thread/277/13889

Would love to find a fix for this.

February 7, 2012 at 5:05 pm in reply to: New Beta out Today?

from release notes for 8.2 Beta 3:

DaVinci Resolve Lite includes all the same high quality processing of the full
DaVinci Resolve. However it limits projects to HD resolutions or less, only
two color correction nodes, a single processing GPU and a single RED rocket
card. Stereoscopic 3D features, noise reduction, Power Mastering, remote
grading, and sharing projects using an external database server are features
only ofered in the full DaVinci Resolve and so are not included in this free
DaVinci Resolve Lite edition. Customers who want to eliminate these
restrictions can purchase the full DaVinci Resolve Software for only US$995.

I know they’ve been offering unlimited nodes, was just wondering wether anyone who had done the upgrade could confirm.

I know it says in the release notes that the new ‘lite’ beta is restricted to 2 nodes, but does anyone know if that is the case? I’ve currently got lite running with unlimited nodes after receiving an email detailing that feature late last year.
