  • yes.. thank you very much for the info… perhaps I have to add 16gb of RAM.. .that would make a difference right???

I have the videos stored in the mac pro’s hard drive in a second partition (RAID)

But now I have another new and big problem.. .today my mac has shut down like 2 or 3 times… I’m really upset because today is last day for returning the NVIDIA 970… so I have to make a decission right now… is this normal??? can be fixed??? if not I will have to return it and go back to my horrible and old GPU… :S

  • yes.. in some situations there is a really better performance, I’m noticing it after 2 days working…

  • yeah.. I thought that… but I think my mac pro is powerful enough… here is a capture

I have noticed in premiere that when I really appreciate the improvement is when I put a lot of effects in the same clip (lumetri, stabilization…etc) or for example an adjust layer on top of the whole project… with my old GPU I couldn’t play normally in these situations… now I can… so there is a great improvement.

But with “normal” previews (clips without effects) or multicams, I don’t look improvement at all… sometimes goes a bit slow…

Also when I export the project, is faster than before… half time more or less… but I think that this is not good enough (my old GPU was from prehistory… of 512MB…)

adobe told me (after doing some tests with them) that looks like this is an error of 2018 version… that they are working on it and soon will be fixed…

after effects is worse though… I can’t see any improvement comparing to my old GPU… 🙁

  • Hi guys,

I’m video editor, using premiere pro CC and after effects CC (last versions)

I have a 2009 mac pro 4.1 with EL CAPITAN and with a recently installed NVIDIA GTX 970 4GB, I installed Nvidia drivers (346.03.15f09) and CUDA driver Version: 8.0.90

it looks like all is correct and updated, I have activated CUDA in premiere and in after effects… but I don’t really see any faster performance when I’m editing and especially with the previews… perhaps a little bit… but very very little… I had a prehistoric Nvidia Geforce GT 120 512 MB, so with the GTX 970 I must see an enormous difference right??? why is this??? I’m really worried with this issue…

any help will be really appreciated!!!

    thank you very much

  • Hi! I’m having similar problem… in my case, it never moves, just “enters” in the value (as if I just clicked on it) it doesn’t matter if I click and drag left, right, softly, strongly, slow, fast… always enters in the value… it doesn’t move a single number… I use PREMIERE PRO CC 2017.0.1 in my MAC PRO 2009 with my WACOM TABLET INTUOS DRAW

with the mouse works perfectly well… and in the same PREMIERE version but on a PC with windows, my tablet works fine too!! but not in my Mac… ☹

I wrote to wacom… hope they will fix this soon…

I will try a previous driver version as you say… but I’m seeing on wacom´s web that for my tablet there’s only one previous version??? this is the only one I find there…

    MacOSX – Driver 6.3.21-8 (Mac OS X 10.10, 10.11, & 10.12)

    is this possible??

    thank you very much!
