Actually my way is not better… its just the only way to do it with the limitations of the DVD spec.
It would be more efficient to have a single menu, with the ability to change the visibility of part of the menu instead of creating a new menu for each button… however the dvd specifications do not support that, so it must be done the way I explained before.

It is possible, however, it has it’s limitations.
The way to accomplish this is to have separate menus for each button you highlight. You then make use of the auto-activate button feature to load the next menu when you try and navigate to the next button.
For instance, if you have 2 short movies, you would render out 2 menus, each with its own video/still in the glass. On the first menu, you have 2 buttons, one highlighting the short movie that is displayed in the glass, and an invisible button with auto-activate turned on, that tells it to go to menu 2, where you then highlight the other short movie, and have an invisible button for the previous menu.
If you are going to have lots of short movies, you will have to render out a separate menu for each button (I would advise not using audio as it will get annoying hearing it start over and over as you cycle through the buttons). You would then only have to create 2 invisible buttons per menu, one on each side of the highlighted button.
It can get a little complicated, but if you know what you are doing, its pretty easy to setup, just a lot of tedious work.

I would recommend screen capture software if you want to show you doing the navigating.
Long time ago I wanted to do the same thing so I hooked up a dvd player to the breakout box of our Matrox editing card, and just captured myself going through the menus using component video.
If you want the viewer to be in control of navigating the menu, I would export the menu as flash (assuming you still have the project file)

Nothing is wrong with encore or the mpeg file, it is a setting with the dvd player and tv.

Do this:
1) Create a new menu using the blank menu template (in the general category)
2) Add your black video to that menu as a video background (under the motion properties)
3) In the properties for the menu, set loop to none
4) Make sure the menu is set to first play (right click on menu in project window, set first play)
5) Create a new menu from the template you liked
6) Link the end action of the first menu to the one you just created
7) Add your timeline(s) for the main video(s)
8) Link the buttons on the main menu to the timeline(s)
9) BuildLet me know how that works

How long is the black video (maybe its too short?) and you are sure it’s end action is set to go to the menu?
I had a problem in a project recently where I forgot to link my first play intro video to the main menu before I built the image. After I realized my mistake, I went back and fixed the end action. After doing so it previewed fine, however, after building the image, it still didn’t follow the end action! I tried over and over again, deleting the end action, then linking it back up, all previewing fine, but once it built the disc/image… it was still retaining the original settings of not having an end action. The only way I could solve the problem was deleting the menu and asset from the project, reimporting them, and then setting the end action. Also make sure you don’t have your first play set to loop (if its a menu).

It almost looks as if it rendered separate videos for each chapter, and jumps to the next one each time the chapter changes (notice the menu controls pop up at the chapter change). Maybe you could answer these questions:
Do you have separate timelines for each chapter?
Is it playing from a chapter playlist?
Do you have any end actions set for the individual chapters?I’m not saying all of those situations would cause the problem you are having, but it would just be a guess as to why it is jumping like that. Like I said, it clearly looks as if it rendered separate videos for each chapter… so the solution would be to figure out why, and if there is a way to get it to render just one video.

The button highlight cannot wiggle. So you can have the text for the buttons wiggle, because that is rendered into the background. The highlight is static, so you might want the highlight to be a little box, arrow, or underline. Those can be made in Photoshop. If you don’t know how to make a custom button (using the (=1) layer prefix, and (+) group prefix), then you will want to read the encore help documents.

If the DVD Player is connected digitally (with an HDMI cable) then you will see the entire frame. If it is connected with analog cables (Component, S-Video, Composite) then you will lose some of the frame to overscan.
