Menu problem related to first play

How long is the black video (maybe its too short?) and you are sure it’s end action is set to go to the menu?

I had a problem in a project recently where I forgot to link my first play intro video to the main menu before I built the image. After I realized my mistake, I went back and fixed the end action. After doing so it previewed fine, however, after building the image, it still didn’t follow the end action! I tried over and over again, deleting the end action, then linking it back up, all previewing fine, but once it built the disc/image… it was still retaining the original settings of not having an end action. The only way I could solve the problem was deleting the menu and asset from the project, reimporting them, and then setting the end action. Also make sure you don’t have your first play set to loop (if its a menu).

Thanks for your advice. I tried every step but it didn’t help.

1) My blackvideo was a little short but I extended it from 1 second to 10 seconds.
2) I think I had the same expieriance with the import of the files. I did have some problems with linked files as well and after a new import it was gone.

Currently my way of working is

1) import to sequences using adobe dynamic link
2) create the 2 timelines
3) Create a simple menu from one of the templates
4) link the diskicon to the ” black video” sequence
5) Link the latter one to the menu
6) link a menu option to the second sequense
7) link the end action of the second video to the menu
8) Build de project to a folder
9) for testpurposes I burn the folder to an dvd-RW uisin magiciso
10) play it on a portable DVD-player

Result: I see the blackvideo and the screen stays black

If I do the same thing without the menu its working fine

I am a littlebit frustrated becausde I like Encore together with premiere and photoshop. It’s super. But this menu thing is a real pain.

Any help would be great.

Do this:

1) Create a new menu using the blank menu template (in the general category)
2) Add your black video to that menu as a video background (under the motion properties)
3) In the properties for the menu, set loop to none
4) Make sure the menu is set to first play (right click on menu in project window, set first play)
5) Create a new menu from the template you liked
6) Link the end action of the first menu to the one you just created
7) Add your timeline(s) for the main video(s)
8) Link the buttons on the main menu to the timeline(s)
9) Build

Let me know how that works

Well I think I fixed it and made the following changes to the process:

1) import to sequences using adobe dynamic link
2) create the 2 timelines
3) Create a simple menu from one of the templates
4) link the diskicon to the ” black video” sequence
5) Link the latter one to the menu
6) link a menu option to the second sequense
7) link the end action of the second video to the menu
8) Build de project directly to disk using 2.4X speed instead of to a folder
9) Do not use magig iso
10) play it on a portable DVD-player

Maybe it works wit a DVD folder aswell (didn’t test it yet). I think it relates to the Burning speed . Everthing is working fine even without the blackvideo as a first play.
