Nope. Not fixed. Am I crazy? How is it that no one else has noticed this?

I just updated from Premiere 24.0.3 to 24.2.1, and the problem might be fixed. More testing is required, but fingers crossed.

Just did some tests, and determined that the exported video is late by 1 frame (at 23.976fps) relative to the audio. Not a huge problem depending on the edit…but like I said, whenever I do fast cut-to-the-beat stuff, I notice it.

    UPDATE:

More tests: Raw file in QuickTime is perfectly in sync. Bring the file into Premiere, change nothing, export it (file type doesn’t matter), video is 1 frame late in QuickTime. Do the same process in Resolve, the exported file is NOT off by 1 frame in QuickTime. Huh?

I fiddled with that setting just to be sure…but that doesn’t affect the exported file, just the playback on my color monitor.

A good idea, but no. I do use a BM Ultra Studio to check color on an external monitor, but I don’t send audio to it. My audio leaves Premiere through the 1/8″ headphone jack of the Mac Studio, and goes to a pair of studio monitors. So when I view the exported video outside Premiere, there isn’t a change in audio chain.

When I search the net on this, I find nothing. Only people with massive audio drift caused by mixed/variable sample rates and stuff. What I’m seeing is more subtle…sync off 1-2 frames. Mostly I ignore it and my clients don’t mention it. But when I cut quickly to music, it becomes very apparent to me.

It blows my mind that when I pull the video back into Premiere, the sync is perfect…but it’s off EVERYWHERE else (Mac/Quicktime, PC/WindowsMediaPlayer, Vimeo, iPhone). Is this “normal”, but most people don’t notice it? I doubt it. I feel like I’m taking crazy pills.

i just tried, and it said FCP can only be installed on a startup drive. it is the startup drive, it’s just the startup drive of another computer. any way to get around that? perhaps a way to transfer the contents of the install DVD over to the non-dvd drive quicksilver?

  • but do you have any idea why this is happening?
