Just checked and I’ve been shooting in 1080i60, not …50.
But regardless of that, based on last post, would fact that settings didn’t match mean the capture default then becomes 720×480?

    Thruflo:
Thanks for the reply. When you say “upconvert upon capture”, do you mean that FCP comes equipped with this ability, or is it stricty based on the capture card? I don’t own any of the mentioned cards on my new system. What options do I have if I want to work in the highest quality HDV available?
Note that I don’t own an HDV deck, and plan on capturing direct from my HDR-FX1 camera. I know this isn’t recommended but I ran out of dough.
Will the image quality still be decent to work with in FCP?

I think I need to read a book (or three) on the basics of DV, DVCAM, HDV, HD, and how it all links together (or not) in the NLE world. Any suggestions?

    Thanks again,
    JB

    Bugsy,
Just bought an HDR-FX1 along with new Apple FCP Studio system.

Am curious about how others are using such equipment. Since I ran out of dough for a HDV deck, I plan on hooking the FX1 directly to the G5, and capture direct. Is this how you’re doing it now?
I’ve heard this is not a recommended approach as the footage recorded on the camera directly is too compressed and you lose too much to output a high-quality finished product.

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    JB

I am now in the market for a dubbing machine as my main dvd-burner is taking a beating with clients wanting numerous copies. I see it as a good way to keep more contact with clients doing this odd-job that will just occupy a machine. My local competitors charge around $25 for 1st, then $10 for each thereafter (inclusive of media). Any dvd-duplicator recommendations would be greatly appreciated.
I am also very curious to find out more about FTP uploading / web video applications. I see this also being a lucrative revenue source and an option to duplication.
