Thanks.
Just so I’m set-up correctly on the new DV-NTSC sequence, I set the following:
Frame size: NTSC (4:3)
Pixel Aspect Ratio: NTSC – CCIR 601 / DV (720×480)
Field Dom.: Upper (Old)
Editing Timebase: 29.97
QuickTime Video Settings
Compressor: ??? (It’s currently set to HDV 1080i60 b/c was just working in that… which setting should I use, or does it not matter?)Does everything look correctly set up?

Hate to ask what may be a basic question but HOW do I de-interlace my 1080i footage in FCP?
I have Cinema Tools but havent’ even opened it yet. Do I need this type of program or will FCP do the job? -
Thank you all for the great advice. Budget is low, so I’m sticking with current setup, shooting/editing with HDV and exporting finished product to DV NTSC via Quicktime.
Not loving the results but will work for now (Motion text/effects looks pixelated…).NOW the problem I’m having is when I attempt to PRINT TO VIDEO from FCP to the FX1. I can seet the video placyback on the FX1’s monitor when I connect it to the G5 via FW, and have the video playback settings correct in FCP. But when I hit record on the camera, the screen either goes black, or keeps the last frame frozen on it, and the audio is the only thing that actually gets recorded.
What am I doing wrong? The camera is set up and obviously “sees” the video from the FW but it doesn’t want to record it…Any clues why???

Thanks for all the tips/tricks.
I just got a quote for a breakout box / Aja setup (w/ 500gb addt’l to my 1tb setup) and it’s around $4200… Under the circumstances, I may have to do the HDV to NTSC DV process.
Being my first cable commercial, I just hope it doesn’t scream low-budg… The Motion stuff I’m working with (which unfortunately consists of Motion-stock video and client-provided .jpg logos) doesn’t look all that great once I export from Motion. I’ve done in numerous formats to find the best result, but haven’t tried actually bringing in the Motion file into FCP yet… will try tonight. -
It seems that I need to invest in hardware that will allow me to capture / export uncompressed. With my current configuration (see below), what in your opinion is the most cost-effective route to take?

Michael: thanks for the info. Are you in the NJ/NY area?? I am starting principal videography on a :30 commercial spot and I want it to be in the highest possible resolution for when it airs. I could use your services to output the final version.
If not in the NJ/NY area, know any editors that have a decklink / kona card that can do this for me??
THANKS,

Thanks.
How do I set the Motion project so that it is on “lossless” preset?
What’s the easiest way to confirm/setup my frame-rate & resolution in Motion?Sorry for all these elementary questions but I’ve had FCP Studio for about a year and never needed Motion before this opportunity…
Thanks again!

I’ve been having same problem w/ Motion and the randomly occurring “not responding”. I typically multi-task between Motion, FCP, Safari, and Quicktime, so I figure there may be something conflicting amongst these files/programs. But it still occurs when I restart and only run Motion. It usually happens when I inadvertently click mouse multi-times when missing a button or menu… (e.g., on the 2nd click the spinning wheel of death appears…).
Whatever is causing this has to stop as I’m only working on a 20 sec segment and its taking forever!

Thanks for the help.
My Advanced toolbar only shows the “Convert to AAC” (not AIFF or WAV option).I did this, and still the same problem when trying to import the newly converted file.
How can I get the aiff option in iTunes?

Thanks for the reply.
Actually, what I’m hoping to do is to mark a spot on the audio that will allow me to drop the level gradually from a fixed point in an audio clip. There is a way to do this where there is a notch mark on the audio line so that when you drop either side of it, the audio stays fixed at the marked point.
