  • Marking breaks on audio timeline

Posted by Jon Boffa on January 24, 2006 at 8:03 pm

I just changed from Pinnacle to FCP and I wish to know how I can mark a break on the audio timeline. I don’t know if “break” is the proper term but what I hope to accomplish is to have ability to fade in and out on certain parts of the audio track. Right now I can only drag level all the way down or up, and not fade in without having the mark put on the audio track.

Any help would be much appreciated!

Type “B” to get the razor tool. Then razor where you want the audio break to be.

    Thanks for the reply.
Actually, what I’m hoping to do is to mark a spot on the audio that will allow me to drop the level gradually from a fixed point in an audio clip. There is a way to do this where there is a notch mark on the audio line so that when you drop either side of it, the audio stays fixed at the marked point.

Turn on “Keyframe Overlays” for your sequence (in your sequence settings, or in the bunch of buttons in the bottom left on your timeline window, sound like you already have this on).

Hit “P” for your pen tool, and click anywhere on your audio level line (or your vision for that matter), and you can create keyframe “rubber bands”.
