Suggests getting a second camera body while the other cools down. I imagine you could install a fan on the body, but that might involve cutting the case and making changes (say goodbye to your warranty). The link above specifically mentions interviews. I think it’s likely the internal electronics and the sensor pushing data continuously through what were initially meant for a series of still photos. That much electricity makes for heat. There are some trade-offs with DSLRs.

Now, both links provide lots of technical info on video DSLRs, but nothing specific to a wedding. My experience is that you will want to carefully plan it all out and make sure you know the location of the wedding backwards and forwards. If you normally do multicamera shoots, and expect to do one with dslrs, You’ll be in for some pain. There are limitations that will make you nuts (especially if you are new to DSLRs) – can give you rolling shutter problems, you can’t just shoot continuously and fill the card- there’s file size limits, focus problems, etc. I would shoot the wedding with a regular video camera probably HD like the HMC150 and then do accent shots with the DSLR to make them stand out. Basically, do it like photography only with video – the whole thing with dslr video is overkill and will be more trouble than it’s worth.
The above is my opinion. I just don’t think DSLRs are ready for event/wedding videography yet. Yet.

Yeah, and in the video post someone else did, it was obviously from B&H which says one hasn’t been released and the other isn’t in stock. Well, I got my first rebel about 3 months after it was released so it won’t be a biggie if I wait, BUT I have 2 projects this month I would love to use it for. Who knows, maybe nobody else will clue in until I can snag the one in Tucson. Looks like Best Buy will have to wait until late March to get theirs according to their staff, though they put theirs in the inventory system on Feb 11.

Wow, I talked to Canon and the nice lady there said they may have been released, but not everyone has them and she wasn’t sure on the date. Only ONE store in Tucson has one. They’re closed already. 🙁

You know, considering a camera is essentially a sensor with a lens and some electronics, I’m surprised there aren’t more like this (I saw some at NAB, but they were pricey). I would love something designed with 3rd-party extension in mind – just the sensor and lens setup, the rest is up to whatever provider wants to put another app on. They do it with most everything already. I’d love to see a more “hack friendly” device – let the users worry about what to do with it, just provide the means to do it. Maybe this is a step in that direction (whether intended or not).

Sweet! Oddly, I thought it would auto-detect, too. That’s a little strange, maybe they’ll fix that for the next version.

Hmmm, what kind of card is it? Brand, make, model, etc.? You said SDHC, right? Has it worked in the past? What are the settings for the video you are trying to playback? Are you playing back in the camera or in another app? Have you tried transferring via SDHC card reader and opening on your machine?

Tom, I hear about TONS of indie stuff made with it – they still make it and it’s used as much as the Canon XL2 or Sony EX1 – they’re reliable and . I use it for tons of projects around town, but I’m getting the new Canon t2i DSLR here pretty soon so I may have to squelch that: I’ve used footage from the 5D and 7D and it just doesn’t compare with anything out there right now in that price range. I’ll keep my DVX100 around though. 😉
