Dunno about JS because I suck at it, but I did find this: search for “Adobe Photoshop CS6 Scripting Guide” in your browser – its a PDF from Adobe with much useful info and code snips in AS, VBS and JS (depending on which you’re comfortable with – sounds like JS is your thing). At 87 pages, it’ll get you part way there. Has some neat info like using AS or VBS to do JS code.
The URL to directly download is absurdly long and it was easier to just paste the search criteria.
Right before I posted this, I found “Adobe Photoshop CS6 JavaScript Reference” as a PDF, too. They have ’em for AS, VBS, and JS. At 231 pages, I think it’s what you’ll need. Lemme know how it works. 🙂

It could depend on the RIP they’re using, but my experience is that vectors give crisp lines at any resolution. What is likely happening is the client or the printer is rasterizing the file and then scaling (more likely the client). They should do the reverse. Any printer will know the difference between a vector and raster image, though. Do you have any raster elements in the design and/or can you post the image?

Did you already have a document open? Do you need to specify which doc you are performing the action on. I’m not real great with scripting. I’m getting CS6 on my machines in a couple days (finally!) so I’ll try it out then.

I think it would be easier to take a drawing, simplify it, color it with those neon colors and then overlay the “streaks.” I would also likely do the work in Illustrator and finish in Photoshop.

Let me know what happens, I’m still on CS3 and CS5 on my machines and I still haven’t done CS6 (need a new machine which I’m getting in a couple weeks).

There are a few likely candidates:
1) make sure you have the most up-to-date version (get updates)
2) Trash your prefs. These files just get corrupted so get used to trashing them every once in a while.
3) you may have a dialog open on another window if you have multiple monitors. If not, use the green + button a couple times to be sure its all in one window or drag dialogs out.
4) bad plug-in(s). Remove all your plugins or drag them to a different folder and add them back one at a time and test. Note: sometimes it can be a combination of plugins that causes it, too.
5) Using too much memory. Go back to default RAM settings and run Photoshop with NOTHING ELSE. Also, adjust your memory settings in PS prefs to default. Try it under 50% if that doesn’t work.
6) Dunno if this works in CS6, but hold down COMMAND-OPTION-SHIFT while launching to reset.
7) This is a bit out there, but if you use external hard drives, eject them all while using photoshop – see if that helps.
8) Ulp! DNR: Delete and Reinstall. Check with Adobe, first, though. 🙁

Well, since its news, you can shoot just about anything and not worry (too much) about permission, BUT shooting indoors they can turn you away. I would tell them exactly what you plan to shoot and when and for what purpose and be very nice about it. They have every right to say no, but if it looks like it will be a positive issue or a win for them, they may say yes. For example, if you’re doing a story on unfair work practices at Walmart, they’ll likely say no so shoot what you can when you can and get in and out quickly. If it’s that Walmart is making new jobs, they’ll likely say yes.

This is a little beyond my experience, too, but can you first convert the PPT file to a PDF/Acrobat file with layers and then convert the layered PDF to PSD? I know I can do this with Keynote (Apple’s answer to Powerpoint). Or PPT >> PDF >> Illustrator >> Photoshop?

Okay just did more or less the same thing in After Effects. Works great. Now I know and I feel really silly for not trying it before. 😉
Then again, I’ve always had to edit everything cuz the colors always look a hair off, but that’s me. Thanks for the reply! 🙂

Yeah, my machine always wants to treat it like a Color file which makes sense, but I find Color to be a bit of a pain unless you have a control surface (which I don’t). I’m not totally sure where to use the s-curve in AE or FCP. Let me know if you find out. 😉
