No deals.. I reinstalled Leopard again.. Installed FCP6 with just DVDSP and Compressor. DVDSP opens, but when I open FCP6, I get the OpenGL warning, click continue, see the Final Cut menu up top for a sec and then poof.

    Calling Apple back Monday…

On Windows it seems to be the ALT key. I thought I tried that, but maybe I had accidentally hit the Windows key. Thanks!

What system are you running? AJA told me the utility is specifically for the MacPro towers. So if you are using another machine, it might not apply.

As a new Kona user, I have a stupid question I have not been able to find the answer to.. Where do I look to see what versions of the drivers I currently have? I could not find anything searching here or Google.

I am not having this same problem, but I am having a problem I saw mentioned in other posts, where only the SDI and component output has a strobe and lag effect, while video shown on the computer monitor within FCP is fine.

I think I inferred from various posts that a driver mismatch could cause the problem? We just received two new MacPro’s with Leopard, preinstalled with AJA Kona LHe cards by our vendor. But I wonder if they just installed with the disc in the box, and didn’t bother to test the outputs.

Well just repeating some of those questions alone would help me prove the point. For that I appreciate it. The server would just be a hefty Dell running Windows Server 2003 or the like with the NTFS filesystem.

OK if you go back and read… I am not asking this question. The part in quotes is my IT person. I already know it is a world of unknown pain.

I am just asking for help in making this case. And I can’t reply with snooty retorts as much as I might want to. I need to be able to say this won’t work right because of X, Y and Z.

I am just an editor that’s lucky enough to be given some input into the decisions being made. And no I won’t tell them to switch over to Avid, because they might actually do it. 😛

OK I didn’t mean to make it sound that bad.. We’re not talking an email server.. Or someone who doesn’t know the rigors of digital video. The rest of our station runs off of Windows-based editing stations and networked video servers. But they are wired with fiber and they only juggle SD in the DV codec.

Our creative department is the only one running Mac and we are the only ones moving more than DV bandwidth.

Basically, I should reframe the argument as: “Why buy an Apple XSAN when we have a perfectly comparable Dell RAID server in the back? OSX is supposed to have support for Windows File Sharing now, so why not?”

To which, I kinda go “uhhhh…”

We’re mostly talking platform wars in a sense..

Well I’ve kept my head low for now to avoid it getting choppped off 😛

But I’m glad to see I at least sparked some discussion amongst others. And from that, I’ve formed a specific question now..

I’m wondering if y’all can nail down what ‘support for ProRes’ actually entails for the Kona and Decklink cards. My guess would be that it just means you can capture in ProRes via the card providing your Mac’s processors are up to the task of performing the compression on the fly. I am assuming that these cards don’t take on the burden of compression with their chips in any way. If I am right, am I further correct that units like the Aja ioHD completely take the load off the processor when dealing with ProRes?

September 28, 2007 at 9:47 pm in reply to: Plug-In Error

I am having the same problem with Shine, Starglow and 3D Stroke. We just bought them in a bundle, and each seemed to have installed fine. But once I open After Effects (6.5 in my case) and try to apply any of them, I get that message:

“After Effects error: “C:\Program Files\Adobe After Effects 6.5\Support Files\Plug-ins\Trapcode\Shine.aex” could not be loaded (126). (48::46)”

I’ve tried uninstalling and reinstalling to no avail.

Followup: OK the issue seems to be more with Windows File Sharing in some way, rather than with codecs. I find that if I record a clip on the machine with the ATI card in it, the networked machine wont be able to see them. BUt then if I unshare the directory on the ATI machine and then activate sharing again, then the networked machine can open it.
