first bug in driver or new “feature”
Just installed the 5.0 Kona drivers on system running 10.4.11 and FCP 6. When opening Edit to Tape in Final Cut the Kona Control Panel automatically switches its reference lock to SDI In. No amount of setting it yourself to Freerun or Ref In will make it change and lock to those sources. If you close Edit to Tape then the functionality resumes and you can lock to any of the three choices. This is not how the Control Panel functioned prior to this update. Anyone else seeing this?
If so, do we think it’s a bug or just the new way they want the card to work?

It’s always been that way. When you first go to ETT it’s not really going to output mode, it’s going to capture mode (or E to E) so that you can see the input of the tape (if need be) so the Kona is actually wanting to reference the incoming video signal. Upon capture mode, the Kona always locks to the incoming vid signal. Once the ETT process has started, it moves out of EE to output mode, then your ref should return to whatever you had it set for before invoking ETT.

I understand your explanation, but I don’t agree it’s always been this way. I just booted into my FCP 5 system with 3.4 Kona drivers and when you launch ETT you can make changes to what it’s referencing before the actual output begins. I’m pretty sure 4.0 drivers did the same as well.

Definitely not v4. Not sure about v3.4.

Be sure to do an uninstall of the drivers before you install new ones or move around between versions.
If you do not do a proper uninstall things can linger.

that was your first mistake- this is a leopard release and not meant for the tiger 10.4 OS versions.

As a new Kona user, I have a stupid question I have not been able to find the answer to.. Where do I look to see what versions of the drivers I currently have? I could not find anything searching here or Google.
I am not having this same problem, but I am having a problem I saw mentioned in other posts, where only the SDI and component output has a strobe and lag effect, while video shown on the computer monitor within FCP is fine.
I think I inferred from various posts that a driver mismatch could cause the problem? We just received two new MacPro’s with Leopard, preinstalled with AJA Kona LHe cards by our vendor. But I wonder if they just installed with the disc in the box, and didn’t bother to test the outputs.
