The facility I work at has been using EditShare for nearly 5 years. We bought it in 2009 when EditShare was really the only system that played nice with both Media Composer and FCP.

It can emulate a Unity. Their tech support is great. If you have to swap in your spare hard drive, they will overnight you a replacement drive.

The other question you need to ask yourself is “Do I want any of this goodness that Avid is promising as part of Avid Everywhere?” Some of that goodness, such as metadata indexing and searching, will only be available to customers who have an Interplay and an Isis.

It looks like the AMA linking process involves the creation of AAF files. It looks like Apple code is being executed right before the crash occurs. Do you have read/write privileges for your media creation volume? Sorry I cannot provide more insight.

That part of the report only tells me that you are using MC v7.0.3 with OS X v10.8.5 and that thread 0 (zero) crashed. Can you post all of the data from thread 0? That will be the information needed to start troubleshooting.

Go to /Library/Application Support/Avid/AVX2_Plug-Ins/AMA and remove the ARRI AMA plug-in. Then try AMA linking again.

The amount of data that has to be transferred back and forth is dependent upon how much audio data you have in your session. The version of Pro Tools has no effect on how much data you have to retrieve from or send to the network attached storage.

Are you not doing an digital cut for audio and video when you make your 23.98 master?

If you do not time stretch your 23.98 sequence to make the 59.94 master, your audio will sync up correctly. Export a 23.98 AAF from the original sequence and include a 2-beep. The Pro Tools operator can spot that AAF sequence into a 23.98 session and also display the 59.94 timecode ruler. Next, he can swap primary and secondary timecode rulers, effectively making it a 59.94 session, and perform the layback.

When exporting an AAF from Pro Tools, enable the Enforce Avid Compatibility option to limit the sample rate options to 44.1 or 48 kHz and enable exporting of clip gain data.

When you do this, you have to realize that you may end up with hundreds of subclips named Sample Accurate Edit. These subclips represent the difference between where the Pro Tools clip was edited and the nearest whole frame. If you do not want these Sample Accurate Edit subclips in your timeline, then you need to force the Pro Tools editor to cut everything on the time code frame edge. This is not a preference, so you will have to tell the editor to be cognizant of this when editing.

If you can deal with the Sample Accurate Edit subclips then you can do some round-tripping with MC. Plug-ins and their automation will not make it back into MC.

Typical workflows involve the Pro Tools editor doing a manual conform or using programs such as Conformalizer or Virtual Katy to take an AAF, ALE, or Change Note and use it to conform the Pro Tools session.

The -5000 error is an OS-level permissions error. This is actually one of the few cases where repairing disk permissions with Disk Utility may actually solve the problem.

If repairing disk permissions does not solve the issue, try launching the software with a different user account that has administrator privileges. This will allow you to determine if it is a system-wide error or unique to a particular user account.
