Your welcome. To be more correct you can’t check files like that, but only packages.
Packages appear like files in the finder but are actually a folder containing several files. There are different kinds of packages for example applications (.app), DVD Studio Pro projects (.dspproj) and widgets (.wdgt). -
My guess is that if you want the most realistic effect to film it with an 8mm camera from the screen and have it developed and scanned.
But maybe that is not what you wanted to hear, because it takes some time. -
A bit odd indeed.
if you ctrl-click the application you can choose show package contents from the drop-down menu and it will open as a folder. Probably there must have been copied or moved a really large file into tha application and you might be able to look further down in the subfolders from the application contents.I hope this is clear. It could be an easy way to find your “cancer” file.

I would try the quicktime solution (or maybe keynote but I think quicktime gives a little better perfomance) and try the H.264 codec. I think it should work. If the full 1080×1920 doesn’t work you can also try 1280×720, still a lot better than DVD.
I used an iBookG4 last autumn to project a theatre piece part of the projections (simple graphical ones) were 1024*768 with an animation codec.
hardware enhancements would be plenty RAM, fast mac mini and if disk speed is a problem an external firwire disk, but with the H.264 codec disk speed should not be the limiting factor I guess.

But what about if you capture an offline clip in the HDV format that bridges two shots?
If you can’t capture that the whole thing of offline clips seems to become a lot more limited.

May 21, 2005 at 6:40 pm in reply to: HDV Native or Uncompressed component for Broadcast EditI am having a similar problem, eagerly waiting for FCP 5 in Amsterdam.
I am thinking about starting editing in DV and when I have FCP5 recapturing in HDV. The timecode should be the same I guess, but I don’t know if it is possible. I don’t really feel like starting now in DV and than re-edit the whole thing in HDV.anyone knows if this is possible? (or if FCP5 is already shipping in NL or EU?)

Maybe the VX1000 has some age problems? Anyhow if you capture DV (mini-DV is DV quality) it should be DV and not DV50 (DVCPRO 50 as far as I know). No matter if you use the PD150, the vx1000 or another mini-DV device. Most cheap AD converters that convert analog signals to firewire will generate DV.
Although it is not supposed to give any video signal if you would select DVCPRO 50.
Further it sounds a bit like general problems, you can try to trash the FCP prefs, and else uninstall FCP (search for all files to be deleted at apple support uninstall FCP) and reinstall. A full scratch disk can also generate problems, but your specs are quite generous for DV editing, so that is not to likely. If the problem persists, write down the error message.
good luck, john

I am in a comparable situation, filming a film on HDV and waiting for FCP5 to edit it as such.
I presume you are correct you need an update to work okay. I think a minimum setup for a comfortably fluent workflow would be something like:
G5 DP 2GHz
2x512MB RAM
an extra 250GB or so SATA harddiskThe upper is approximatly my setup, if you can afford some extra I would suggest:
G5 DP 2.3GHz (big pro of this model is upgradabilaty to 8GB-RAM)
2x1GB RAM
2x400GB is a nice out-of-the-box option*.
ATI Radeon 9650 256 MB graphics card (+
