Check to see if you accidentally hit the Clip Enable keystroke command sometime for that particular clip … select the clip and then go to the Modify menu and try the Clip Enable command to see if this fixes it …

Hi Mike,
We recently have experienced the same thing on a few occasions … luckily our workflow includes backing up the raw card media with ShotPut Pro which has verification … because our main edit files which have been rewrapped to QT and the backups of those files have displayed the same corruption.
This has only happened to us when copying via Firewire, and it had primarily (maybe only but I can’t tell for sure) happened on one specific laptop.
So in our situation we 1.) threw away all the Firewire cables that we thought might have been used for the transfers, 2.) try to never use the laptop that seemed to be the problem … and 3.) we always now do a verification with ShotPut Pro whenever we’re copying important media — even if we don’t do the copy with ShotPut Pro (because we have problems with it crashing on large transfers), we still run its Checksum App after the copy is done.
Several years ago we had a similar problem that turned out to be bad RAM. Since all file transfers run through the computer’s RAM during the process, if the RAM is not putting out the same thing as went into it, this can cause corruptions. But in that case we were seeing lots of weird non-repeatable errors in ALL areas, not just in file transfer.
Good luck!

Make sure your shutter is not on “auto” … either set it to “off” or your desired shutter speed … but if it’s in auto then it will cause brightness changes just like auto-iris does.

I own a FS700 and I edit the AVCHD footage in FCP7 … Log & Transfer works fine … you should set the Log & Transfer preferences to convert the footage to ProRes …
Note that it takes a lot longer to ingest AVCHD footage than P2 or SxS stuff … once it has been converted to ProRes, though, the editing is smooth.
I have occasionally had troubles with long clips crashing FCP7 during Log & Transfer … so I don’t love this camera for shots that last 30-60min each … but for shorter clips (like short interviews or b-roll) everything works smoothly.
I echo Shane’s suggestion to receive some test footage first so you can verify that all your drivers are up to speed before the edit day.
Good luck!

I have run into this problem when the hard drive containing the raw footage is connected by USB … the problem clears up as soon as I connect via Firewire … not sure this will help, but that’s one of the weird workarounds that has helped me …

Hi Bill,
I have successfully used two Samurais (one connected to EX1r and one to EX3) at a dozen live events in the past 2 years. I use them to record presentations one hour at a time (1hr per clip) for 6-8 hrs per day. I record in the ProRes 422 format (not LT and not HQ) and have not had a problem. I forget the make and model of hard drives that I use, but be sure to purchase drives that meet the Atomos spec.
Good luck!

June 4, 2013 at 2:09 pm in reply to: Correct me if I’m wrong: there is no way to listen to only 1 of 2 audio tracks in the viewer. you can only isolate in the timeline.Hi,
If you’re source audio has been imported as two mono (instead of 1 stereo) then the viewer will show you a tab for each of the two mono channels … then you can set the level of the channel you DON’T want to hear to zero, effectively soloing the other track.

December 31, 2011 at 4:31 pm in reply to: Why is colored stage lighting creating blotches of color on my PMW-EX1? Is it like color-overexposure or something?Hi,
We’re having the same issue … with our EX-3 and our PMW-350 … it happens with all strongly-colored LED lighting … and since LED lighting is becoming more and more popular for stage-lighting, it’s really an problem for us …
I don’t have any solution for you … I just wanted to weigh in so I can track the progress of this post as well.
We sent a couple of full-resolution sample clips from our 350 to Sony Engineers but they’ve been reluctant to respond with a definitive answer.
thanks,
