What I’d add to this post either for you, or anyone else that stumbles onto this post is this – check your cards, and do some checking.

I made the mistake of asking the people at the Apple Store if everything I had would be compatible with a new Mac Pro rather than looking into things myself. But, as I was upgrading from a G5 Mac to the new dual quad 2.26 Nehalem – this meant going from PCI to PCI Express – and none of my cards fit.

This meant that my £2500 Mac ended up costing £4200 by the time I added the new Fibre channel and new Decklink HD card.

    Which was nice…

Still, I can sell the old 2.7 dual with the Celerity Fibre Channel and Decklink HD card at one point…

Just make sure it all fits first. That’s my advice.

    Hey Walter,

Just thought I’d close this off – as I got to a solution through the Blackmagic forum. A reply asked me what slot I’d seated the decklink into – and when I listed everything – it occured to me that maybe the very thing I was using to find out the problem of no HD – WAS the problem – the makeshift airport card that I had in it while setting up the suite.

    Oh dear….

Next time someone asks you to define irony, use this example please.

I was going to remove it once the suite was installed anyway, as I don’t like having edit suites online (viruses yes, but also a distraction) – however, as it wasn’t working, I needed to be online to download drivers, post in here, work out what was wrong etc etc.

So – the thing I was using to find out what was bust, WAS what was bust! I whipped out the card, reinstalled the latest drives, et voila – HD filled my monitor.

Thanks again for your help – pointing me towards the right forum might have been all you could do – but it sorted it. You’re a star.

    Oh dear….

Next time someone asks you to defien irony, use this example please. The thought occured to me after replying to that last post, that the one thing that’s different between pre-reset G5 and now is that I added the airport card.

I was going to remove it once the suite was installed anyway, as I don’t like having edit suites online (viruses yes, but also a distraction) – however, as it wasn’t working, I needed to be online to download drivers, post in here, work out what was wrong etc etc.

Thanks for your help – had you not asked me to break it down, I’d have never have thought of that as a problem/solution.

    Hi Kristian,

Thanks very much for the reply.

    1) It’s the same Mac, 2.7Ghz Dual processor PPC, that worked before
    2) The card is in second from bottom. (Fibre channel top, Airport card second, Decklink 3rd, video card bottom.)
    3) Do you mean will it ouput an extended desktop to my HD monitor in HD? No – it’ll only give me 720 x 576pal and 720×486 NTSC as the options for sizes on that monitor.
    4) Deck control application doesn’t work either I’m sad to say. Just outputs in SDI.

Tried installing/reinstalling drivers again, just in case, but no joy. Though oddly, when I uninstall the Blackmagic and Decklink drivers, and re install with an older version, it still says there’s a newer version already installed.

BTW – not even going near the Multibridge. I plug it in once in a while, just to check if that’s the error, but no luck there either, so I just leave it out of the chain for the time being, so it the connection is direct from decklink to monitor.

Thanks very much for the reply though – any other thoughts?

Thanks Walter, I’ve just posted something into the Blackmagic forums. Though oddly, I seem to have gained ‘Moderated’ status and things aren’t posting/replying as fast as possible.

(Guess it’s the new email address now I’m working for myself that did it).

Tried BM support and support from the reseller I originally bought it from, but it’s so quiet on the reply front, it’s like they don’t want to tell me there’s no solution!

Thanks for the post anyway Walter, always a great help.
