I wanted to take this off-line, but my e-mail to you bounced.
My original post was a month or so ago when most models were back ordered at B&H and 2-4 weeks was quoted by my local dealer. We love P2. Own 200 and AF100. Would have bought a 3700 or 3100, but too much money right now.
We did a demo of the 370 and other than the depth of field challenge, we loved it and will likely order one next week. I loved the 3100 and would jump on that if it could be configured for under $20K, which it can’t. So we keep using the AF100 for spots, and will replace our 200 with the 370 for ENG while we wait for a new 2/3” to replace the 500 next year.

So are you saying that the current delay in most Panasonic camera shipments is due to potential model changes in response to Sony sales surge ? Or rather is the lack of Panasonic shipments due to manufacturing problems related to the disasters in Japan ?

I think AVID finally heard the footsteps, after they became a stampede.
But not everything has changed at AVID. When AVID started to finally embrace alternative IO options I was excited and pleased that I had hung tight with AVID. But then I bought an AJA lo and out came the old AVID all over again. It became clear that AVID was not sending HD closed captions (using the great new 5.5 caption features) via the HD SDI output of the AJA. To access that feature you had to buy the AVID IO box at seven times the cost of the AJA.
Old habits die slowly at AVID.

Thanks for the great tip.

I have not heard from AJA, but I will be one very disappointed owner of 3 AVIDS if I learn that this was a designed in difference to protect over priced AVID I/O options.

Well there it is, fourth from the bottom on an AVID page I have never seen before. Captions are NOT SUPPORTED. For those of us trying to produce HD programming for broadcast, captions are not “ancillary,” They are required. So much for the new open AVID that is actually listening to their users.

I did a search of every Web site I could find that carried the AJA line. Not one had the IO in stock. Some described the backorder period as indefinite. I think it’s time for AVID to open up to some other manufactures who have similar IO boxes like Matrox. Or even other boxes in the AJA line. Somebody is doing a very poor job of managing this rollout.

I have been told by 3 vendors that AJA Express IO is on indefinite backorder. Meaning AJA and AVID promoted a product that would appear not to exist yet.

Do you expect anything between the the 370 and the 3100 ?

Will try. Thanks.
