I’ve tried a compressor on the music but I still think it sounds cluttered. Side Chain Compression sounds interesting, I don’t think SoundBooth will let me do that, though, or add VST effects. Could be wrong, just starting out.

Just tried it and got a million “Internal verification error” about “item H cannot be a null”. heh. It looked like it worked after I hit okay a million times, but when I drag to the comp the subclips are still waaay long. Even though, now, they have different starting points. I’ve just started to render out each subclip as an uncompressed new render from PPro just so I can move on. Thanks for your suggestions!

If I double click the subclip footage to view it in AE’s Footage Panel I see the whole timeline of the source clip and I don’t see in or out points. If I drag the clip directly into my comp, the entire clip gets placed instead of the duration in the subclip.

Have you tried the Roughen Edges effect?

Though Flash and After Effects share a lot of features and follow the a lot of the same concepts, they can also be vastly unlike each other. After Effects is really a different animal. But a passionate 14-year-old would probably soak it all up and make it dance eventually. Especially if you got him a project-based book for beginners like “After Effects Apprentice” by Trish and Chris Meyer.

Boy, I wish I had After Effects when I was 14. I didn’t pick it up till I was 38. If you get it for him you’d be the best mom ever in my book.

Thanks, I read it all. I think I’ll go with the JVC DT-V20L1U and the BM Intensity card for starters. Would connecting them via DVI be good enough? (JVC monitor has no HDMI input).

Do you think the Intensity Card would be sufficient with which to begin experimenting with color grading? I’m just doing broadcast design and commercials.

Wow, awesome. Thanks so much for giving me a direction. I’ll check out the Intensity Card until I get this mograph stuff paying for itself.

That is so weird. It’s waaay off. I can’t believe I did something so stupid. I have no idea how it got all the way over there. Thanks so much for looking. I’ll get to work on it now.

I recreated what you did and it worked fine … ’till I tried it in my project. Again, the text just completely disappears! I’ve uploaded the project if you care to have a look (it’s like 61 megs as I can’t seem to zip anything right now).
It all happens (or doesn’t happen) around frame 2167. There’s a “screen” there with no type beside it as with the others. But it’s there with its Boole, but it just doesn’t work?@#$! (It’s the “Television/video” object in the OM, the only one there inside a Boole.
