Chris, your post is the exact opposite of what most people come here to complain about. Usually, people are screaming as to why Vegas Pro is only using 30% of their CPU and taking forever to render. You should consider yourself extremely lucky that Vegas Pro is taking advantage of 100% of your CPU. Most people would be overjoyed if they saw that.
Rendering is extremely CPU intensive as László said and if Vegas Pro will use 100% of your CPU you are in a elite group of people who own a computer that Vegas Pro will actually take full advantage of. I have a12-Core (2 x 6-Core CPU’s) and Vegas Pro can’t figure out how to keep them all busy. 🙁

ProType Titler is useless for this sort of thing. I would stop wasting your time on it if I were you. I have complained to Sony about this. The ProType Titler timeline bears no resemblance to the Vegas Pro timeline making it only good for doing timing that does not have anything to do with your video. This is the wrong tool for this job (although I can’t say what the right tool is because Vegas Pro has so many failed titlers) I’ve tried to time it to narration like this in the past and just given up in the end.
You might try creating a title for each animated bullet and then place them on multiple tracks top of each other across the timeline to have them enter at the points needed. That’s about as good as it gets.

Yes, it’s really important to note that Sony placed extensions on three (3) of their menus:
- Edit | Extensions
- View | Extensions
- Tools | Extensions
Any extensions that has a User Interface must be placed under View | Extensions. Extensions that are under Edit and Tools cannot have a UI and therefore cannot interact with the user. Those are reserved for extensions that just perform functions without any user interactions.
Confusing to have them in three places maybe, but that’s the logic of where to look. Lots of people look under the Edit menu instead of the View menu because there are next to each other and it’s easy to get them confused because they both have an Extensions submenu.

This confuses a lot of people and even I get spooked by it some times. What I’m guessing is happening, is that your currently open project 01.TBTH.Intro in that screen shot was actually created in the Library 2017_03.14b.Library_MickTBTH. You are now pulling files from the new Library 2017_03.26_NEW.Library_MickTBTH into the old project and since every Library is really a self contained folder on the file system, FCP X is telling you that it will need to copy the clips between the two Libraries so that the Library remains self contained, unless you have elected to leave files on the filesystem.
I see that you have Libraries called “xxx_Library”. I would forget that it is a Library and think more about what it really represents in the real world to you. I don’t know your workflow but please allow me to share my workflow with you so that you can see how I use Libraries. This is just my workflow and may not be appropriate for your work but it serves as one example use.
I do work for clients on an annual basis. I create one Library per client. For example: I do work for Boris FX creating training for Boris TV. I create one Library called Boris TV where all of my work for the year is done. I create one Event for each episode. So I have Events like 01-3D Text Basics, 02-Animating Text, 03-3D Extruded EPS-1, etc. Each Event has 3 Projects. One is the finished demo to show at the beginning of the show. The second is the demo that I build during the show, and the third Project is the show itself (i.e., my recorded demonstration). All of the media for that episode is imported into that Event. That keeps each episode and all of it’s media under one Event which is named for the episode. Sometimes episodes share media but that’s OK because everything is under one Library for that client. At the end of the year, I usually start a new Library just so that the Libraries don’t get too big. I keep all of my media in the Library so archiving everything is as simple as just dragging and dropping the Library onto an external hard drive. This is what one of my Boris TV Libraries looks like in FCP X:
This approach might not make sense for your work. Some people mix multiple clients projects in a single Library because that’s what makes sense for them. If your project is a documentary, you might want one Library that is the documentary and the Events are days of shooting or locations and then another Event that contains the projects (timelines), etc. It’s all up to how you want to use it but you have this hierarchy of Library -> Events -> Projects to logically partition your work. Use that hierarchy to your best advantage.
I’m not sure what mistake you thought you made that caused you to create a new Library (I might have just deleted the Event that I imported media under and created a new one) but perhaps if you discuss it further here, we can guide you as to how you could have corrected it without having to start over with a new Library and now get confused by having two Libraries with media being copied between them.
Getting back to your question about what’s going on… I’m pretty sure that your Project lives in the other Library. What I would do is close the other Library (right-click the name and select Close Library) and just work with the new one open. This should elevate any confusion about where your media is coming from. Hope that helps.

Great! Glad that was a solution for you. Compound Clips are also awesome for syncing video with externally recorded audio and making them behave like a single clip. I really love the feature. Happy editing! 😀

[Jerry Jones] “As you know, with FCP 7, I could just create a new timeline/segment. Have not found a way to do that with FCPX.”
You can create a Compound Clip from them. Just select all of the clips that you want to include, right-click and select New Compond Clip… (or press ⌥G) and they will collapse into a single clip and be aded to the project media. Then just delete the new clip from the timeline because you now also have it listed in your events media list. You can drag and drop it back onto the timeline at any time and you can double-click on it to modify it at any time. You can even modify it while it’s in the media window and never add it to the timeline until you are ready for it.
I believe this will give you the same functionality that you had before (maybe more because it now behaves like a single clip or a timeline).

[Tasos Peroglou] “i have the exact same problem right now. If you ever find a solution please let me know i really need to export .mov format files :/”
Have you consider getting a Mac as a solution? I’m serious. QuickTime files are the native format for Mac. They have terrible support on Windows. If you need to deliver QuickTime format you should seriously consider buying a Mac and getting the support you need. (btw, I say this because I moved to Mac several years ago and don’t use Vegas Pro or Windows anymore. I continue to help people on this forum because of my extensive knowledge of Vegas Pro after using it for over 11 years but I have to chuckle when I see people having problems that I solved a long time ago by moving to the Mac.) Not sure how bad your need is to support QuickTime MOV files. Just something to consider.

If I understand what you are trying to accomplish, I believe this tutorial from Ripple Training should give you the steps that you want to follow. You would use your matte instead of the white title in the video but you can resize both as they show in the video:

[Don Smith] “The Magnetic Timeline, as Kannan said, will be frustrating at first. Frustrating! You’ll do a lot of “WHY does it not do what I expect?” Well, if what you expect is what track-based NLE’s do then, yes, you’ll pull your hair out. FCPX is a praradigm shift. Paradigm. Shift. It’s a different World View that, once you ‘get it’, you’ll never go back.”
+1
I will never go back and I agree with everything that everyone has said. One thing no one mentioned about the praradigm shift, and my little bit of advice is this:
Stop thinking about Tracks
Start thinking about the Story that you are trying to tell
What is the story? (Your Primary Storyline) What are the sub-stories? (create Secondary Storylines for these) What do you need to make the story advance? How do the secondary stories support that? Maybe you just need a cut-away for a moment (use Connected Clips). FCP X is all about facilitating the telling of the story.
There are no “gaps” in telling a story! Editors leave gaps on timelines while they are editing because with track-based NLEs it’s so hard to insert something later. With the Magnetic Storyline you can decide that something fits better in the middle of something else and simply grab the clip on the primary storyline and drag it to where you want it to be and everything associated with it, the connected clips, and secondary storylines, the foley, etc. come with it, and what is the most magical is that everything else in the new location moves out of the way to make room without you having to do anything!!! This is the true power of the magnetic timeline. Once you rearrange the story to make it flow better, and everything just falls into place, you will wonder why you waster hours of editing time managing tracks and clips and gaps (on my!). 😉

March 25, 2017 at 12:10 pm in reply to: Vegas Pro 13 won’t recognize video files taken by my cell phone[John Perez] “I was all excited to get an LG V-20 with manual control over video, but when I try to import video files an error msg says: “corrupted of unknown file type.” Is there a work-around for this?”
A quick Google search reveals that the LG V20 shoots AVC/H.265 which I don’t believe Vegas Pro 13 supports. The LG V20 was release in 2016. Vegas Pro 13 was released in 2014. You can’t expect old software to support formats that didn’t exist at the time it was created. The workaround is to upgrade to Vegas Pro 14 (which I believe does support H.265), or convert the video to the more common H.264 with a video conversion program.
