Timeline Question
As a newbie to FCPX, quick questions about timeline.
I have a few items (transitions, titles, etc.) that I’ve been experimenting with, testing, trying out. I do not want to delete them yet. But I still want to move forward on other parts of this project.
– Is it possible to create a new timeline where I can “hold” a few things until I get back to them?
– If not, what is the best way to use a “spacer” between those tests and the rest of the project?
(As you know, with FCP 7, I could just create a new timeline/segment. Have not found a way to do that with FCPX.)Thanks much, Jerry

You can create a Compound Clip from them. Just select all of the clips that you want to include, right-click and select New Compond Clip… (or press ⌥G) and they will collapse into a single clip and be aded to the project media. Then just delete the new clip from the timeline because you now also have it listed in your events media list. You can drag and drop it back onto the timeline at any time and you can double-click on it to modify it at any time. You can even modify it while it’s in the media window and never add it to the timeline until you are ready for it.
I believe this will give you the same functionality that you had before (maybe more because it now behaves like a single clip or a timeline).

Great! Glad that was a solution for you. Compound Clips are also awesome for syncing video with externally recorded audio and making them behave like a single clip. I really love the feature. Happy editing! 😀
