ProRes is Apple’s own proprietary codec. It is absolutely supported on Catalina.

Why bother trying to launch Finder once you have the Terminal window open? Just make a new folder move the files off of your desktop info that folder from the terminal:
mkdir export-filesThat should move all of the tiff files from your desktop into a folder called export-files. You should then be able to access your desktop again.
mv ~/Desktop/*.tiff export-files~jr

November 1, 2019 at 2:49 pm in reply to: Should I upgrade to Catalina on a MBP 15″ mid-2015 running Sierra? The first thing I would do is check that all of your applications will continue to run on Catalina. Apple has dropped support for 32-bit applications so any applications that you have which are 32-bit will stop working!
This is what I would do:
- Go to Apple  -> About This Mac
- Select System Report
- Select Software -> Applications (wait until the application list loads)
- Click on the 64-Bit (intel) column to sort by compatability
- Check the list for any application with No in this column
If any of the applications in that list say No and you are not willing to have them stop working, then you cannot upgrade to Catalina. Pretty simple decision. I am not upgrading any time soon.

[Winston A. Cely] “Simply put, I want to lock the brightness to 100%.”
So that you can burn their retinas? I have never used an Apple display at 100%. Way too bright IMHO. Why do you care if they change the brightness?
Anyway, I don’t know of a way to restrict this but there is software that will control the brightness of your display. Perhaps the author of that program might know how you can lock the brightness somehow. I used it when Apple removed brightness control support for my display in one of the OS X releases (I forget which). That’s how I know I would never use an apple display at 100%. ???? The software I’m referring to is the OS X plugin called Shades: https://www.charcoaldesign.co.uk/shades

Just received another email from IK Multimedia:
https://www.ikmultimedia.com/news/?id=macoscatalina
The email included this comment (which is not on the web page):
“IK’s engineers are working hard to bring you updates compatible with the upcoming operating system. Unfortunately, 32-bit only applications will not be supported with the update. We recommend our users not upgrade to macOS Catalina until further notice.”
I’m sorry but I have to say it again… Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard was the last OS that was 32-bit only back in June 2009. We have had 64-bit support for 10 years!!! What have these developers been doing for the last 10 years that they haven’t moved their apps to 64-bit??? (…and now they are crying about Apple doing this to them) “Lazy” is the only word that comes to mind.

[Zachary Kinney] “I really think Catalina is going to have one of the slowest adoption rates of any MacOS in recent history, at least amongst A/V professionals.”
+1
The same for audio professionals. I’ve received emails from Native Instruments and GForce Software that their audio instruments and plugins are not compatible yet so do not update. I’m sure more emails are on their way.
Any professional in any industry that updates to Catalina on the first day without first checking that all of the software they rely on to conduct their business is compatible, is a fool. This is a huge code-breaking update.

I have used Beyond Compare for many years to keep hard drives and backups in sync for both Mac and Windows. I don’t believe it will remember part of a file being copied, but at the file level it only copies what has changed so when you recover from a power failure it will compare files and dates and resume copying where it left off. Just point it to two folders and it will copy from one to the other or even keep them in bi-directional sync. It has the ability to use FTP (File Transfer Protocol) for remote servers so it might help your situation if the servers are remote and you can’t mount the remote drive.

August 4, 2019 at 12:13 pm in reply to: Are 3rd party old SVP plugins compatible with Magix Vegas Pro? Can they be made to work?[lars hansen] “I have SVP 13 with a bunch of old plugins and am wondering if they’ll work in MVP 16? If not, are there work arounds or…? “
Scripts will definitely not work because MAGIX changed the script API to be incompatible with previous versions by Sony. There are no workarounds. You need to get updated scripts from the authors.
What are the names of the plug-ins? Perhaps some people here are using them already?
