If I remember correctly you needed to configure your audio card record options to use “What-U-Hear” mode. That was back in the days of Windows XP. I don’t even know if it’s possible anymore and I don’t use Windows anymore (I’m on a Mac) so I can’t check.

I believe that software packages like Camtasia can be configured to record system sounds because they are designed for doing demos in which this is important. Vegas Pro cannot, which is why you had to configure your audio card to do it for you.

I would use Alpha Channels instead of Chroma Key. In whatever program you are using to create the animation, render your output using the QuickTime Animation codec using 32bit mode to preserve the Alpha Channel in areas that there is nothing (instead of filling them with green which is what I assume you are doing). Vegas Pro will detect the Alpha Channels and make them transparent without having to use Chroma Key. Then you can have multiple layers of transparency.

June 17, 2017 at 10:54 pm in reply to: MP3 issue with Vegas Pro 14

Are the MP3’s using variable bitrate or constant bitrate? I remember reading something about always using constant bitrate MP3’s because Vegas Pro had trouble with variable bitrate ones.

Also I would be careful of what mp3 codecs you may have installed. Vegas Pro doesn’t need any other mp3 codecs and something you have installed could actually be causing the problem. Codec Packs can really mess things up if you have any of these installed.

I have no problem with using the occasional MP3 with Vegas Pro but I usually use WAV files for my audio because of their higher quality.

  • [Derek Blume] “We have not received any updated libraries from VASST at this point to update the licensing for the FASST apps.”

    Derek,

I tried to contact you last week via your email but I haven’t received a reply. Perhaps it got stuck in a spam folder?

How can I contact you to make this happen? I’ve had these updates for months now waiting for someone at MAGIX to send them to. 🙁

June 9, 2017 at 1:00 pm in reply to: 3D Model not Importing into Mobject properly???

I realize that it’s been a while since you posted. Did you ever figure this out? Are you using the latest mObject 1.3.2?

I’m guessing that your last thought about exporting the entire scene as a single mesh was the correct solution. Having that many editable objects was probably overwhelming mObject whereas a single mesh is really all you need. I don’t know what 3D program was used to create that scene but getting whoever made it to export it as a single mesh might solve your problem.

Very cool tutorial. I immediately through it would make a great Motion Generator for FCP X until I realized that you can’t have an Audio Drop Zone so there would be no way to assign your own audio once in FCP X. ☹ (very disappointing)

I had no problem following your tutorial though. Well done. Thanks! 😀

[Richard Jones] “And you’ve always got Colour Curves available as well.”

    +1

Oh yea, I was on my iPad Pro when I answered and was going from memory but my memory ain’t what it use to be. ☹ Color Curves is a must.

    My favorite toolchain is:

Levels –> Color Corrector –> Color Curves

In that specific order. Set your white and black points correct with Levels, do any color adjustments with Color Corrector and then add some styling by slightly crushing the blacks and whites with a nice “S” curve in Color Curves. It’s the Holy Trinity of color grading in Vegas Pro.

I would use the Color Corrector along with Levels. That should get you the control that you need.

June 2, 2017 at 4:49 pm in reply to: Importing Media fails

Yea, it depends on your workflow. Some people like to import all of the media, then go through the media marking in and out points with the trimmer and making sub-clips that are organized into bins and then using those to populate the timeline. Other people like to just drop directly onto the timeline, trim, and the drop the next clip. It’s really up to how much organizing you need to do first like with a documentary, vs. just getting in and editing a live event which might be easier to just trim on the timeline.
