You can use either a SAN or NAS, you don’t need both. The important part is that you have shared storage for the media files. Since you already have the QNAP NAS, just continue to use that as long as it’s fast enough to edit with. People recommend SAN because it can be connected via high speed fibre channel.
What you need to do is to have each editor work with local libraries that have all of the media external on a folder on the NAS. Then set up a separate library on the NAS to act as a shared library that just contains just the projects. Here is the workflow:
- When you want to share a project you open the shared library, copy your project from your local library to the shared library and close the shared library.
- When you want to work on a shared project you open the shared library, copy the project to your local library and close the shared library.
All modifications are done on a local copy of the project. You only copy it back to the shared library when you want to share it again. This seems to be the best way to operate in a workgroup environment. The key is to work locally, not use managed libraries (i.e., all media must be external), and to have a separate library for just sharing projects.

Look for the fastest Core i7 Quad Core that you can afford with an AMD Radeon R9 270M or better graphics chip. Have at least 8GB of memory and an SSD drive.

Stay away from AMD CPU’s and NVIDIA GPU’s if Vegas Pro is your main application.

Actually it’s not! I’ve had gamers tell me this before and I’ve watched their videos at both 30fps and 60fps and I can’t tell the difference. Maybe it’s because most people’s Internet connections can’t stream 1080p at 60 fps from YouTube anyway. As I said 90% of the people can’t tell the difference but I understand that you can and your friends can but most people can’t.

I’m guessing that since your audio is WMA your video must be WMV. Since Vegas Pro doesn’t have GPU acceleration for Windows Media Video your CPU is doing all the work and unfortunately, you only have a Dual Core CPU which is on the low end for HD 60p work.
You didn’t say what your source video is or how many effects you have applied. Also does your timeline playback smoothly at 60 frames per second? If not, that will increase render times too.
It’s not uncommon for HD WMV renders to take 10x longer to render 60p without any effects so 2 hours for an 8 minute video sounds about right for your Dual Core CPU. If you want to render faster, get a Quad Core or Hex Core CPU that runs at a higher clock speed. You could also use a render format that is GPU accelerated instead of WMV with your current setup. Finally, if you render to 30p it will only take 1/2 as long so you could drop your 2 hour render down to 1 hour simply by rendering at 30 fps and 90% of the people watching YouTube are not going to notice.

Maybe just try uninstalling, rebooting, and reinstalling Vegas Pro 13.0 as a first test. That should re-establish a runtime files that Vegas Pro needs to operate.

I have never seen that happen before. Perhaps something in your Vegas Pro 12 installation got corrupt? I would uninstall and reinstall Vegas Pro 12.0. Also make sure that you reinstall with the latest build.

To do that you would need to key out the background and just leave the subjects at the table so that you could insert the banner behind them. Unfortunately you didn’t shoot against a green screen and there is too much white in the foreground to use a luma key. What you need is a traveling matte which which would be very hard to do with Vegas Pro. You would have to painstakingly draw a mask around each subject and animate it frame by frame. It’s possible if you have the time and patience. After Effects has some rotoscoping capabilities that could help if you have AE.
I’d say you’re out of luck unless you want to try and create a mask by hand. Next time, shoot against a green screen if you know you want to change the background.
