Clips behave differently depending on whether they are on the Primary or a Secondary Storyline than if they are just Connected clips. Without knowing which clip is which it would be hard to say but I’m guessing that your audio might be on your primary storyline which gives it the behavior of snapping without leaving gaps and your slides are just connected clips.

Here are two suggested workflows:

(1) Place the slides on the primary storyline. You will then need to manually align the audio but this will ensure that there are no gaps between slides since a break in video is much more distracting than a break in audio which is not as critical.

(2) Create Compound Clips ⌥G from both the slide and it’s audio. This will allow you to edit them in their own timeline to align them. Then when you drop the compound clip on the primary storyline, both the video and audio will be included and snapped with no gaps.

If you already have other video in your primary storyline and both the video and audio are connected clips, the compound clip method might work well in a secondary storyline that’s connected to the primary storyline. If this isn’t clear, perhaps a screen shot of your timeline might help explain what your project looks like and what you are after.

Is he trying to make a Dual-Layer DVD? I’ve never created one of these but I do know that you need to have a break point for the two layers. I believe DVD Architect is requesting that you create a chapter point between ’01:00:33.440′ and ’01:12:06.560′ so that it can be used to break the layer of a Dual Layer DVD. You should be able to add a chapter point in DVD Architect by double-clicking on the video and creating a chapter on the timeline that is shown using the Chapter Menu or just pressing the ‘M’ key.

Yea, that’s what the Trimmer is for. You should be trimming your clips with the trimmer and then inserting them into the Timeline as needed (even if you don’t create subclips).

You should be adding a Sony Tiles & Text event on a Track above your video. You should now be able to see both the text and the video in the Video Preview. Next press the Animate button next to Location and the Media Timeline will appear. Make sure that the Sync Cursor to Media Timeline button is enabled.

Finally, move your text on the view preview to the first position, advance the timeline one frame, move the text to the next position, advance the timeline one frame, move the text to the next position, etc. You should see keyframes being generated on the Media Timeline and your text will now move with your video.

As you have seen, Black is not Transparent. That’s because there are 4 channels. RGBA (Red, Green, Blue, Alpha). The RGB values give you the color (in your case Black) but only the Alpha channel will provide transparency.

To solve your problem, you need to render with a codec that supports an Alpha channel! Rendering uncompressed with preserve the Alpha channel but the files are extremely large. QuickTime PNG preserves the Alpha channel as does the QuickTime Animation codec. You will need to create a custom template for this which should look something like this:

It’s really important that the Compressed Depth be set to 32 bpp color. That’s what preserves the alpha channel.

It sounds like your workflow could benefit from using SubClips. Instead of editing on the Timeline, you should use Open in Trimmer on your long clips and then set your In and Out points in the Trimmer and press the Create SubClip button and give it a name. A new clip will show up in your Project Media with that name and just the parts between the In and Out point. Then assemble your timeline from just these SubClips and when you use View | Active Take Information (Ctrl+Shift+I) you will see the name that you gave the SubClip. I believe this is the behavior you are looking for.

I’m guessing that the HDMI transmitter is not doing the proper handshaking and so your Mac isn’t getting the information it needs. I would contact the manufacturer and ask if it is compatible with the version of OS X and hardware that you are using. Was it specifically designed for use with a computer? or was it designed to just extend cable boxes and blu-ray players?

If eliminating the HDMI transmitter from the path makes it work, then that’s probably the cause of the problem.

PCIe would give you several benefits. I bought an OWC Mercury Accelsior E2 PCI Express SSD and not only is the SSD incredibly fast, it also adds 6Gb SATA III to my 2010 Mac Pro via eSATA ports. So my external RAID 5 is connected via 6GB eSATA. I realize that you don’t have an empty PCIe slot but I just wanted to give you something to weight your options against. Maybe one of the PCIe cards is not as beneficial as getting 6GB SATA III.

If you want to stay with your internal SATA II bays, then the Samsung EVO SSD’s are good performers. I have the Samsung 850 EVO Pro in my 2008 Mac Pro and it’s working out great. Even though it runs at 3GB/s, it was like getting a new Mac when I put it in compared to an HDD. It really made a huge difference.

Nope, not if you are using the internal SATA II bays. OWC probably has some older 3GB/s SSD’s for sale but most everyone else is only selling the 6GB/s SSD’s these days.

I’m not sure that will happen automatically. You may still need to use the trimforce command to manually enable it. Here is an article on how to accomplish this:

You can manually keyframe the position of the text by pressing the Automation button next to the Position parameter. Are you not seeing how to do this?

What you really want is Motion Tracking which Vegas Pro doesn’t have built-in but Boris Continuum Complete has a Motion Tracker that plugs into Vegas Pro. Here is a tutorial on how to do it buy you must purchase BCC separately.

If you were using Fincal Cut Pro X you could motion track with Apple Motion or a plug-in like Track X from CoreMelt.

For DVD you should use Project | Render As… and render your video to MainConcept MPEG2 using one of the DVD Architect … templates and render your audio to Dolby Digital AC3 and give it the same filename (except with the .ac3 extension, of course). You can then drop these into DVD Architect and it will accept them.
