I have read that if you upgrade install CS5 and.5 with an earlier version of of CS3 or 4, the upgrade process looks and takes things from the earlier versions.

If you then later uninstall the earlier versions AFTER you have installed the new upgrade, you will have problems.

The advice given is to run the Adobe uninstaller program on the earlier version and then install the new version.

One major caveat – the upgrade to CS5.5 will ask for your prior version serial # so be sure you have it when running the upgrade.

(and be prepared, it takes about 1 1/2hrs to install Cs5.5)

The Multibridge ECLIPSE costs quite a bit more than the Xena because it has many, many more audio channels.

A better comparison to Xena would be the Multibridge PRO which is feature for feature equivalent. However the Pro can work with either Mac OR PC operating systems. The Xena can only work with the PC operating system. Both Blackmagic and AJA systems are fine pieces of equipment.

  • Tim Kolb is someone I always trust for honest straight knowledgeable answers. He keeps his hand in many aspects of this industry and thereby keeps himself technically up to date. Tim is also very fair and always willing to help those far less knowledgeable such as myself.

Glad he’s here – especially since we are considering the LHe Xena.

Thanks Tim for all your effort and help over the years on the many areas you work on in the fora.

Thanks Tim for the clarifications. So the Mach(k)ina is basically the capture software in the current version and the potential for PPro2 capture with upcoming driver release, right? Look forward to hearing about the functionality improvements of the new upcoming drivers for the LH/e. Building a new box shortly and am leaning toward the Xena LHe as it appears to have the best capability to price ratio for what we’re looking for:

    -HDV editing Canon H1 24f, 30f, 60i
-SDI HD/SD ingest and edit off the Canon H1 – using Prospect HD (Ingest level)

I only wished there was a way to then use the ingested files in Edius and their HQ codec as we’ve been quite happy with the speed/stability of Edius. We stopped AP 6.5 and will have to go thru the learning curve of PremPro … but with the nice integration of all the Adobe progs now, it’s something I need to do anyway.

Looking into a machine that has both a XenaLHe and Canopus NX card with separate profiles…
