Have you considered just using a motion background for your menu setting the loop point after you bring the menu in?
Of course, you have to do this in AE or some NLE, but it should be pretty easy.John Rich

Chris,
What I’ve done is make the BluRay Project in Encore with menu’s etc. Then in the Build dialogue, build a bluRay image (.iso) and use freeware ImgBurn to burn the image to a regular DVD.This should play in a bluray player, but won’t work if you are using a PS3.

I’ve never done this, so this is just an idea and is pretty complex. It requires a 3d type program which in this case would be Zaxwerks Invigorator Pro. You’d also have to be able to use Illustrator.
https://library.creativecow.net/articles/hamad_serge/depth_scale/video-tutorial.php
This creates compression of the button. Then you’d use the render of the button compressing and go to Andrew Kramer’s tutorial here.
https://videocopilot.net/tutorials/dynamic_bar_graphs/.You would make a short clip for each button compressing and then put it into Encore as a button transition for each button.
It might be tough to line up the menu button with the moving button.
Just some thoughts.

John,
I always thought one needed two separate projects in Encore if you wanted to do the same “stuff” with both SD and BluRay material. At least I know you need menus that are 1920×1080 for a BluRay project.
I’d be surprised if you could switch from one to another with that switch in Preferences.
My computer is down now, so I can’t test this, but….
Try a short test project with a Bluray menu that’s 1920 etc. in encore and a high def clip you have. Then do a new project which you proclaim at the begining to be SD, and import as menu the big menu from the Bluray project and see if Encore resizes the menu down to 720×480. Then you can add in your SD clip.
See if you can burn both to disk and if the disks play in a Blu
Ray player.

John,
Thank you. I think Jeff Bellune taught me that about 5 years ago and I’ve done it that way ever since. Glad it worked out.John

Jeff,
I was wondering if you thought this was the way to do this.1. In Project window, click the timeline tab and select the timeline there. This will bring up all the chapters in the window below. Select all the chapters at one time..
2. Go to the properties and set override to none.
3. Set end action to none.
4. Then deselect the buttons, go back up to the timeline and select it and set the timeline end action to return to the main menu.
5. Then go back to the project window and create a chapter playlist for each of the chapters so you would have 17 chapter playlists each with only one chapter in it.
6. Set the end action of each “chapter playlist” to go back to the menu where it came from.
7 In the first menu, “link” the play all button to the timeline.
8 Then in the submenus link each button to the appropriate chapter playlist.I think this should give you what you want.

Since you only have one button, then naturally, it will always be the one in the “selected” state ie the subpicture highlight will always be present in the preview.
If you have more than one button, then only 1 of the buttons will be selected in the preview.

That’s why I asked the question. I’d hate to give up the Zaxwerks titles I use if I move to CS5 and it sounds like I won’t have to.John
