Oops. I see I have it reversed as far as Progressive/Interlaced, however you can use the same procedure.

Initially bring the footage into a 1080p project, then move the bins into your 1080i project.
When you edit with them, Avid will add a motion adapter to convert it to interlaced. Usually looks just fine. -
Make sure you are linking correctly with the P2 folder structure. If you drill into the nested folders and link you might not get spanned clips to work properly or at all.

It’s not called Front Row.
that was an app that Apple released for awhile. It was basically the same interface as AppleTV for use on a computer being used as a media center (a MacMini in most cases). They eventually discontinued it. The DVD Player app sounds like its missing from your system for some reason.
If you want it back, you are going to have to reinstall the OS or use a third party app, like Pacifist, which can extract it from the MacOSX installer.

You can just leave them both the command pallete and the keyboard map window open and minimized.

Not exactly ideal, but have you tried up converting the file but leaving it Animation Codec.
Is the Alpha retained?If yes, then convert the upconverted Animation codec clip to ProRes 4444 in a separate pass.
Animation codec can be pretty lossless (apart from the upscaling), so the extra pass shouldn’t really lose you any quality. -

No difference between using stereo or mono tracks.
stereo tracks are a recent addition to Media Composer, so most of us old school users will use mono tracks.I would duplicate the sequence, then delete the audio. Bring the new tracks into the copy, but there is no reason why that’s any better than what you suggested. Again, personal preference.

I usually would not recommend upgrading mid project, but Avid MC 6.5 is FAR more robust at relinking AMA clips.
Maybe download the trial, if you get desperate. It’s fully functional for thirty days.
