I’ve always found Marquee to have brutally long render times. I’ve avoided using it for that reason. I’ve been an Avid user since the late 1990s. It’s one of several Avid features that has not been updated or developed much over the years.
You might want to give AvidFX, which is really a re-branded version of Boris Red that launches from within Media Composer, a try. It’s very powerful and may render faster. AvidFX came with your system, if you bothered to install it.
Avid MC7 also includes NewBlue Title Pro, which I have not yet tested.

Glad you advised to leave everything set to Fast. I have seen so many people robotically advise others to set everything to Best..which in this scenario is absolutely the wrong thing to do. In addition to adding huge amounts of time to the encode, it may actually CAUSE artifacts by engaging Optical Flow in a scenario it is not suited for.

Speedgrade has scene detection. If if you don’t want to grade with it, perhaps you could make use of it, and send the sequence back to Premiere.

Because the iPhone (not sure of other phones) varies the frame rate without the user being able to control it, its problematic if you want to do an offline/online workflow using the original files…since Avid will not let you relink if you transcode the frame rate.
Best to transcode once to your edit frame rate (25fps) at DNXHD 120. Forget using low res at DNX 36 and relinking later to uprez. Its too difficult in Avid to make it work. You could not easily make projects for all your different frame rates (some may be non standard rates and not available in Avid)
If you have access to FCPX or Adobe Premiere Pro, you can just edit the camera files natively. Avid MC7 has better AMA performance, so you might be able to edit with the original footage with that, but I have not tested this yet.

You can only transcode to the project settings you are in. Since your current project is 1920 x 1080 you can’t transcode to 1440 x 1080.
Most people want to get out of the HDV codec. DNXHD is far superior for performance and rendering, btw.

Duplicate the clip without the feathering applied and place on another track. Crop the clip revealing the side you want feathered.
