How can I feather just one side of the picture? When I use the feather option in the motion tab (under crop) it feathers the whole picture (all sides). I just want to feather one side. Thank You.

Duplicate the clip without the feathering applied and place on another track. Crop the clip revealing the side you want feathered.

I did this just a few weeks ago and I am pretty sure there is a feather plugin in FCP that lets you chose just on side of frame.

I do have lots of other plugins but I recall it was the FCP built in one that I used.

    are you sure, Michael?
Most of the built-in feather and matte effects can only do the same feather all the way around.
well, i’d say ALL of them actually, but it’s a long time since i needed something like this.
it’d be good to be wrong on this.

i think there might be an Alex4D or Andy Mees plug-in that can do one side.

another approach is to create a gradient in Photoshop or similar and use it either in an image mask filter,
    or as a compositing layer,

your best and most immediate bet could be to look at what MOTION has to offer.

I will check Nick. I have both Alex’s and Andy plugins so it might have been one of theirs. It certainly was a plugin.

Try using a 4-Point Garbage matte.

there is definitely all-round feathering with a garbage matte.

you cant even drag the points outside of the range of the canvas.
well you can, and it works for describing a shape, but the feathering stops at the canvas edges.
