The default text color is black. Might be difficult to see depending on the footage. You can change the color by clicking the black rectangle at the bottom next to where it says “Text Color”

Oh yeah…
At the top of the Preview window on the right side there are two buttons… the left button shows what the source file looks like, the one on the right shows what it will look like encoded.
Make sure you press the one on the right…and adjust the split screen slider to reveal the timecode window.

Can you just drag the file you exported back into FCP, load it into the viewer and change the start timecode back to 1.00.00.00 using the Modify/Timecode command?

Actually this is similar to the way it works in Avid. If you duplicate a sequence on Avid it becomes independent, and if you edit a sequnce into another sequence and then change the original it does not update either.

You can also export a QuickTime reference Movie (same codec as your timeline) then use Compressor to encode your file AND add burned in timecode simultaneously. Compressor 3 has a Timecode filter. I like doing this because you don’t have to render the filter in FCP…which ties it up…The addition of the timecode filter in Compressor doesn’t dramatically increase the encode time and can run in the background while you do other stuff.
